Battlefield 1 open beta kicks off later this month

The 64-player open beta for Battlefield 1 will begin Aug. 31 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.

Players who sign up for the "Battlefield Insider" program and choose their platform before Aug. 21 will be eligible for early access, according to EA. The company did not specify when the beta will end.

Battlefield 1?s open beta will offer 64-player action on one map, Sinai Desert, in two modes that will be very familiar to longtime Battlefield fans: Conquest and Rush. Three new classes will be playable in the beta ? Sentry, Flame Trooper and Tank Hunter ? along with war horses and a "behemoth" vehicle known as the Armored Train.

You can see all of that in action in Battlefield 1?s Gamescom trailer above, and in developer EA DICE?s squads livestream from the convention, which will kick off on the Battlefield Twitch channel at noon PT tomorrow.

Battlefield 1 is set for release Oct. 21 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, although people who pre-order the game?s $79.99 Early Enlister Deluxe Edition will be able to start playing three days early.

im signed up. i just need to start buying a new computer soon to play. lol

New computer !?!?!?! More like new internet, that 600+ ping on satellite has to go.

LOL I remember one time playing with DarkRaven. I was like, hey something's wrong with your internet.... your ping is like 900! His reaction was, oh yeah... I'm on Satellite, that's normal. Oh man, I dunno how you do it. :scared::facewall::cursing:

Emails seemed to come out around 2-3am ET (around 10-12am PT) containing keys for whatever system you registered the open beta product. PC download is around 7.1 GB, with Xbox One beta key being 6.1. Seems that the product is good to go once the download is complete.

At level 15, or 4 consecutive days of playing, you get an exclusive Battlefield 1 Beta dog tag. I'll be checking this out tonight. I know, I know, gasp! I won't be playing BF3 tonight.

Played it early this morning.... its tough to see tanks running around and no rockets to attack them with. I guess the "K Type" sniper bullets are the replacement for the rockets, but still. The feeling of firing a rocket at a tank or Heli was so much enjoyable.

I kinda get the feeling that BF4 will still have a good following, even after the BF1 official release.

Initial thoughts:

Gun accuracy leaves a bit to be desired. I know it's WW1, but there has to be a balance.

Because of the accuracy issue, snipers are the preferred class. Wizekraker's sniper shot then pistol come is going to dominate in the beta.

Tanks and armor can indeed dominate with the lack of AT in the hands. The only way to take one out is through stationary AT or everyone needs to chuck their AT mines.

I hoped in a plane with H2HOE and tried to fly around a bit. You groundlings will like that a plane really isn't much of a threat yet. I am sure as people master the bomber, it might be a different story. However, it's difficult to see the troops on the ground.

its fun, and gorgeous graphics even on medium. definitely time to invest in a new vid card. my radeon 7950 is fine on medium and get about 40 fps on high
