Shooting During Startup

Hello all, this is the first big essay type thing I'm doing, and apologize for any grammar mistakes or stuff.

Now, I'm game for cheating, as I usually won't beat a game without doing so (I usually use 2 files, one for cheating and one legit), but in some areas of cheating, a line needs to be drawn. By that, I'm talking about shooting during startup.

All too many times have I seen pubs shooting through gates, normally that would be just fine by me, give them a warning and we can both go on with our lives. However, more recently I have been seeing CLAN MEMBERS killing/shooting through gates during setup times. I would like to interpret to you that this is an absolutely bad thing to do.

Why is bad, one might ask? Let me lead you to the obvious. When you kill someone during setup, they probably will not respawn in time to make it back and equally resume what they were doing. Once or twice, my team has ACTUALLY LOST THE GAME because of people shooting through the gates during setup.

The second reason, and this one harms the clan more than the team, but it gives a bad impression to me, and I can tell you this, it will surely give a bad impression to normal pubs who would be interested in joining our clan. And honestly, I couldn't blame them for doing so. I would totally not be interested in a clan that allowed shooting through the gates. Seriously.

The only other reason I could imagine was morals/ethics. By shooting through gates, it gives a really bad view on you. You don't know this, but pubs will mutter swear words at you from behind their monitor. And secondly, ethics. In a horse race, you won't see a jocky and his horse run before the officials say go. So, how is that any different from the game? The jocky would be suspended for a few races, and I can't really say anything different about in-game.

In short, don't shoot through gates, its not nice, and you'll get kicked/banned.

Thanks
Zopy.

Thats a double ditto here. A bunch of us eG and eGO's are getting tired of reminding people of that on Cave5, so we have resorted to one warning, then a kick, then a ban if they come back. Its a simple instruction and rule. I personally don't want to play with a bunch of pubbers or members who can't follow a simple rule. Lets set the example...DON'T SHOOT DURING STARTUP...EVER!! /end rant

You could put it more specifically as "Don't attack the other team during setup by shooting through the holes in the wall."
Because simply saying DON'T SHOOT could convey the wrong point.

Also I think that those holes were either there for that purpose, so you could attack the other team , or the mapper was careless. I was observing some admin's actions and it did seem a bit harsh in my opinion.

"Don't Shoot During Startup" Seems to convey the general meaning. If they can't get the idea when its right in their face they aren't going to get it.../kick. Besides this has already been covered in the eG forum.

The big thing is when i played the caves map. There huge amount of chaos starts since when i was there for about 3-5 hours, there was about 1-2 admins that werent doing anything about it. The team that is attacking has a lil walkway that you can folow to get to map's middle, well that pathway is surrounded by wooden planks which you can shoot between. While I would love to report people who continue disobey rules I simply cant do that because of my computer. I can "fast" alt-tab and record the information needed, neither I cant kick/ban cause I am only an (e).
Had no idea what to do since 98% of people at that time were non-egos, so I was overhelmed by the mojority.

The best thing to do cccp is message an admin, eG or eGO, and get them in on it. You have three avenues. Steam friends, Ventrilo, and IRC. I would be more than happy to help if that happens again.

How would anyone know that it's against the rules though? The map is designed to be able to do it, it's not a glitch or a bug on the map. Like I said previously there's an easy way to prevent all of this and unless that happens people will continue to shoot through the gaps in the wood.

Honestly, the pubs probably wouldn't know about it. I, however, have seen wayyyyy too many (e)'s doing it, and made this post to let them know that they shouldn't.

This is an idea. I often see messages pop up in the middle of the screen during game play from admin's. Could it be set up for a message to broadcast “don’t shoot during startup” pop up before game play starts and possibly throughout the round, just as a reminder? Or is this something an admin would have to be present in game to do?

I am just concerned about the people who are outside coming into our maps, many of them are not registered to the site and don't know what we classify as "cheating" especially on the custom maps, caves map especially. There is room for glitches and accidents happen, but I know for a fact that there are people who are banning people without any warning what so ever... how does that make us look? I think that everyone should be on the same page, and that maybe some how give more detailed explanations of what we classify as cheating to the outside people, because like I said, many of our outside people aren't registered to the site, nor visit it, so maybe some way in game we can have rules, that they can see. I don't konw just a suggestion.

What admins that are on could do is use "god" talk...It will be a white text in teh middle screen for everyone to see
