Like many, I held out so much anticipation and hope for this game. I watched the videos , looked at the concept of the storyline they were basing the game around..
I played the Beta.........enjoyed it and wanted more.
What i didn't realise..is the Beta was as far as i could tell about as interesting as the game was going to get.
Don't get me wrong , i still jump in and play some Single player at times for a few hours but.......................
My list of things i think Ubisoft made mistakes in and dropped the ball on :
1) Enemies.. Cleaners, Rioters and Rikers.. Same clothes for each group.. same basic lines...same fighting mechanics. Barely anything to separate one from another. I mean how many times do we really have to hear "OMG, They got alex!! " variation in clothing , mechanics, tactics they use..a bigger variety of lines and taunts..but they did nothing. They used the same clothing with minor changes and the NPC's from each group have maybe 10 lines the randomly use.
2) Bosses: Nothing special in my opinion. just bigger bullet sponges with larger Hp pools to chew through and predictable fighting mechanics. almost as if there was 0 imagination put into them at all.
3) Dark Zone Pvp: a hackers and exploiters and griefers wetdream. Gave up after trying many times to get into the area and got camped by the entrance. a complete mess and badly executed idea. again had promise..but poor execution of their ideas and by the time they got things "fixed" barely anyone was left interested.
4) Story: The story concept could have been such an epic adventure. The story they put us in has all the depth of a puddle. Seems like just a bunch of loosely connected missions hiding a loosely written story that didn't seem like it had any real literary glue to hold it together. The story doesnt seem like it has anywhere to go. They used a concept and hoped the player would feel connected to the human story they wanted to portray. I saw the desolation in the city.. but they failed to make me "feel" it.
5) Immersion(this was my breaking point) I dont feel immersed in the world in general. For me this is where they failed the most. I didnt feel invested into my character..like i owned him or i was developing his personality in anyway.i didnt feel like i made any difference in the world because i go out.. kill a tonne of identical looking rioters etc doing the same identical things as they always do..hearing the same identical lines they speak when i get close enough to trigger dialogue.... i go back in that area a few hours later and the same rioters have respawned and rinse and repeat. In Witcher 3 i felt like i owned my version of Geralt of rivia..my dialogue choices had consequences..my dialogue choices mattered. Ubisoft put me down into a world where i was to be this person who was supposed to make a difference...but i wasnt making a difference and my choices in the world had zero effect on anything in the long run.
They created a beautiful looking world.. it really does look gorgeous,The environmental effects are fantastic.. walking in a snowstorm.. the wind effects, lighting.. really stunning .. but thats all the game has..pretty wrapping paper around a hollow story.
But the story , game play, bosses, voice acting, variation and immersion were poorly done and things get very repetitive very fast. I Like are opening a PTS , but i fear its too little too late and there will be little left of a community at all to care what changes they make going forward.
I am going to keep the game installed and jump in for more single player from time to time. but i cannot get past the repetitive boredom i start to feel after just a few hours and always am hoping for something to happen that changes that...but "omg, they got Alex" 15 times+ an hour.. is a little more than i can except.
