External Hard Drive Recommendation

Looking to get an external hard drive for under $150. Primarily will be storing photos and video on it; essentially anything I do with Adobe.

Decided to skip the SSD as mobility and power draw won't be a major issue for me. The drive itself will be the primary backup storage to what's on my laptop. This drive will help free up the 400GB I've accumulated since I started doing photography.

Main confusion is why some drives are about $100 for a 1TB version, whereas another from the same manufacturer is about $55. Did not see any changes in speed or warranty, so I was wondering if I missed some other important fact, like maybe actually faster download/upload speeds, built in OS, etc. Thanks in advance.

I own a 2TB My Passport Essentials and I have no complaints. Also bought the case for it to make it weatherproof.

The My PassPort Essentials are going for about $200 nowadays so that's not a valid option.

It looks like mine is old now. They have these now though $87.78 for 2TB $57 for 1TB

I used a $20 Toshiba 2.5" drive enclosure and turned an old 1TB HDD from my laptop into an external drive. This is a good option if you have a 2.5" drive laying around for use.

If not, I second the WD Passport drives. All of my drives have only been Western Digital drives, with the exception of my SSDs, and have been great.
