Couldnt agree more
I was stupid pumped up for the game.. the idea of an abandoned city , save a few survivor, gangs etc that you have to try and retake the city back from.. The environment, weather effects, the desolation of the city your walking in...+ a robust story could have created an epic RPG with a pvp component.
all unfortunately just fancy wrapping paper around a very poor and water thin story. Rioters, cleaners and Rikers.....same damn clothes on every one of them. Each rioter looks the same , each Riker looks the same and each cleaner.. almost no variation save a few minor details..the bosses are just bullet sponges that offer little challenge above how many bullets will this sponge take to drop vs last sponge.
The dialogue was weak and repetitive..I mean "omg, they got alex",,,,,,,,,,,,cant even count how many times an hour you hear that crappy line from rioter.
you dont feel like you are making a difference in the city because you log out and the same rioters are walking the same path in the same place you killed them an hour ago. Loot system was a grind, crafting was weak and basically useless. The dark zone was a hacking griefers wet dream......
the gameplay was repetitive and uninspired..and the shooting mechanics got boring real fast..
For me.. they needed to have twice or 3x (or more)as much voiced dialogue relative to the story, make the rioters etc look different., different clothes , different dialogue choices. .. I mean instead of having me come across 20 groups of 2 or 3 rioters frisking a body every hour.. how about stopping a gang looting a store, or robbing a couple .or saving some damsel in distress being chased.... ............... i wanted to go into the city and feel like billy badass..
I think where they failed the players is there was no attempt at making the player feel invested and immersed in the world or story and there was nothing to make you feel emotionally connected to your individual character.
