Going to post this to make sure no one gets banned accidentally.
We all know that:
NO SHOOTING DURING SETUP TIME ON ANY MAP
Well I've seen couple people being kicked/banned for "shooting back at that person who was trying to kill you" and admins cant know who did it, they just see one person kill another person.
SO
Since I play for fun, and dont care too much about my rank.
What I do is when I know there will be rule breakers:
1.I type "no shooting during setup time" in chat to make sure new players will know about it
2.If problem persists,I on purposely run to where the problem is and let that person kill me. First that alerts my team that there will be people who may kill them and gives time for admins to take action and to notice things.

The only problem I have is centuries since the engies are just trying to build theirs so if a CENTURY IS SHOOTING AT YOU, MOVE TO SAFE ZONE since engies cant tell their centuries when to shoot or not.

Hope this helps some player
till sunsettown might come back =P

Thanks
cccp

After this thread, there is absolutely no excuse to be shooting at setup. Not to say that there was an excuse to shoot during setup before.

we aler people 2 or 3 timesabout not shooting during setup and they still do it sometimes and kill people wich means a kick and maybe even a ban

I'm all for fare play and exploiting loop holes in a game is not what I call fare play. How can we ban people who don't know eGO rules? Unless we have an admin present at all times using "god" to advise everyone not to shoot at start up. Or how about editing the "welcome to eGO page to show "no shooting at start up?" I don't want to see people leaving eGO servers because they got banned for a rule they did not know about.

On the other side, if they are being told not to shoot at start up, and they do it anyways. I SAY BAN THEM ALL!

Shooting during startup is considered an Exploit. When logging on to any of our severs, the server message specifically says no exploiting.

As for what you can do when there's no admins present, there are several options. One is the chatbox on this site. I've had to use that a few times to get an admin to the server I'm playing on, and it's quite quick. Second, check this thread out:

http://www.edgegamers.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?49384

Many eGO's and eG's have posted ways to make contact with them in this thread, myself included. Add us to your steam friends! We're all happy to assist if possible. Sometimes any one particular admin can't join for whatever reason (real life does call, occasionally), so it's best to have more than one eGO or eG on your friends list.

Third, and most importantly, the Request Ban forum. The hardest part will be getting the steamID, but even that is quite simple.

One sidenote... if you haven't yet, try attending an Admin Seminar. You will learn a lot of useful information there. Good luck!

it would be much better if a gate just covered all of the holes in that part until setup was over.

Shooting through the gates is the exploit because the gates are supposed to be impassible. Shooting over non enclosed areas can't really be called an exploit.

I know we don't run cp_well but if we did you would be hard pressed to keep people from shooting over the trains at the startup without explicitly make one of the rules, "no fighting whatsoever during setup time"

Lets make it simple for people:

Caves5 shooting during set up: Allowed yes or no?

Can we get an official response please?

I did it once and i got yelled at, then they did it 2 me and i got mad lol. just dont do it its not fair!

the map was made like that, but it makes me slightly mad when someone says "i should be allowed to do it, that it was made for that reason"

it won't matter soon, when goldrush comes out :D

Now if I can just remember the name who said it, but the official response was a BIG HUGE NO

Not that i dont believe you cccp, i would have liked a senior ego to ackowledge the question to clear it up once and for all. But in a case of this not happening, i'll stick to no shooting in set up like dustbowl.

Also i'd like to add that some people have said that, it didnt matter since goldrush would replace caves 5 eventually. As far as it goes it DOES matter right now because we have this map up on the server and it NEEDS attention from admins and non-admins alike. In the scenario that Goldrush is delayed another 2 weeks, then cave5 is the current map and we cannot just let it become a kingdom for punks.

Officially: NO shooting during setup. The Sentry Gun problem is a bit more tricky, and I'm not sure how we should handle that. We don't want to penalize Engineers for trying to be ready, but we also don't want to demand that players aren't allowed in certain areas in order to mitigate this.

That would be an elegant solution, and is (in my opinion) the major flaw with that map. (There's one or two others, but that's the big one.) If whoever designed it had kept those areas closed until the alarm sounds, then this would be a non-issue. Hopefully the aspiring map makers here can take notice. Gaps through which to shoot are cool, but must be managed during setup.
