HI Battlefield Players,

Here are some sad updates on Renting a Battlefield 1 Server for the PC Community as of 9/30/16.

EdgeGamers: Hello, I am inquiring about renting a BF1 Server. The Launch is two weeks away. Can we rent a server from you guys?

ID3: “I’m sorry. Currently there is no BF1 re-seller program. We don’t know if Dice/EA is going to allow re-sellers.”

EdgeGamers: “I thought you were the official provider for BF1 servers?”

ID3: “We have two segments of the business. One renting to re-sellers. Then a different segment where we host their official servers. The official servers are being hosted by us. But there is no re-seller service on BF1 Servers. There is no provider id for us at the moment.

EdgeGamers: “Do you think we will have an opportunity in the future?”

ID3: “At this point in time we are not allowed to offer any BF1 servers to the general public.
I would not rule it out in the future. But there is also that EA/Dice may host the servers themselves or that EA/Dice may resell them to the public themselves.
Because the launch is so close and they continue to be very vague. There has been no confirmation about what we can do. Honestly, I am as confused as our customers.”

EdgeGamers: “How was it handled in the past roll outs of new games?”

ID3: “For instance, with BF3 we told our customers a month ahead of time that we would convert their BF3 servers over to BF4 for free. We also took orders for BF4 ahead of time. We have no word from EA/Dice on this at the moment. It would benefit us as well to rent servers to the general public. But EA/Dice is in the driver’s seat.”

EdgeGamers: “Thank you for your time.”

ID3: “Thank you for your inquiry. Keep an eye on our website for any changes. Our management will update it as soon as we get any official word from EA/Dice.”

We are still hoping DICE/EA will announce more info on servers the next week or 2 before release.

Not getting that 'warm and fuzzy' feeling about this. Catering to console fans once again.
 
This is really terrible.... Terrible for the BF community as a whole that EA should be trying hard to cater to, and terrible for the really dedicated players and groups (like EGO) who spend so much time and effort creating custom environments like pistol only servers, that make the game so much more than it is at release.

Bad move for DICE.... looks like BF1 may flop like a few of their other releases. I was really looking forward to this one. :-(

I feel bad for all those youtubers that "confirmed" dedicated servers a few months back
 
Well now we know the real reason why RCON and PROCON are not going to be available.

This could also mean that if you want to rent a server you have to get it through EA/Dice. More $$$$ in their wallet.
 
Just another way for companies to control us more and push the stupid politically correct crap down our throats.

the threads being created by the community were choke full of misinformation and rumors and that false information was being taken as fact. So to stop more disinformation and rumor creating more rumors the discussion was closed and official word will be posted soon. Over used term but it truly is in the very near future.

I am under NDA with EA games and will not go further into information ..

Everyone agrees they should have come forward with information a lot sooner, but anyone who works for a corporation knows information has to go through layers of people before its publicized.

Are you serious? The only reason they are withholding information is to suck in pre orders before the unveiling of news nobody wants to hear. Even if they do rent servers it will be a nightmare . They wont be maintained ,moderated and on the cheapest level im sure. Like you said they are a business a publicly traded one who's sole mission is to profit anyway they can even at the expense of the customer and they have a track record to prove it.

They could rent those servers for 5 bucks a month and i would.t touch it with a ten foot pole, nightmare avoided.
 
If anyone catches wind of an article containing solid updates from reputable source for gaming news that are keeping their fingers on the pulse of what is being developed in the scope of Battlefield 1, then post it here. Stop with the citing of NDA's, secret sources, and friend-at-EA-told-me-juicy-information-but-I-can't-tell-anyone-yet shit. This isn't directed at anyone, but, we are seemingly reacting (maybe over reacting) to potential and unconfirmed news about servers. I must state that I applaud the attempts at sorting legitimate news from the rumors. Frustration originating from this should not be the final decision on purchasing the game. I'm sure EA/Dice will release something soon, but, my god, it seems that virtually every news article on some second rate website cited some nonsense driveled up by some 14 year old and a blog who's uncle works at EA.

If anyone knows anything, be mum about it and wait for it's public release from a reputable source, then report it here. It irritates me to know end; likening it to the "I know something you don't know" mentality we should have left behind in elementary school (or primary school, I think LBr would call it, you know, during which he would have learned to read a wall clock). If EA wants to withhold information about servers until the day of, well, that is their business decision. If they want to only have certain DC's have DedServers, or regionalize them under their full control and manipulation, then that is their decision as well.

Following the Battlefield™ 1 launch, we will start rolling out a Rent-a-Server Program that will allow players to set up their own private and public Battlefield 1 servers, with control of different gameplay options to map rotations. Thanks to these customization options, you’ll be able to create games that suit the play style for you and your friends.

Starting close after launch, you will be able to rent a server through the in-game store of Battlefield 1. In the past, servers were handled by third-party companies – now, EA is providing them directly. We think this will benefit you in several ways. First off, we will be able to secure the quality of the actual hardware. Since the servers come from the same provider, it will give everyone the same uniform experience. Furthermore, if you have questions or need help, you will be able to reach out to EA Support directly instead of third party support.

On a rented server, players will be able to customize gameplay aspects like server name, map rotation, game mode, various game play settings, and more. We might restrict number of game modes available at launch and gradually enable them based on feedback and other circumstances, but you can expect that we’ll keep adding customization options and UI design throughout 2016.

Expect to hear more about it as we approach the release of the Rent-a-Server program. We can’t wait to see you on the battlefield!

I'm not getting EA/Dice. Maybe i'm missing something here, but the biggest title they have released in YEARS is coming out on Monday night, and they're not releasing key details that decision makers need to make a decision to buy or not buy the game. I see it as one of three things. Either (1) they don't how bad the backlash will be, so they're deciding at the last minute, depending on the size of the orders coming in, and how it matches their expectations. (2) They have NO Clue what is going on here, and how significant the decision is, or (3) It's bad news, so they're keeping it to themselves, to release last minute, so it doesn't get as much attention as the game release does... i.e. timing the release of the news.

Either way, its not good.

It's simple really. With them having ownership of the servers, they are developing a method of obtaining more money. No more middleman or licensing to gameserv companies that have to pie chart colocation costs, licensing rights to EA, and their net profits. With this method, EA can have their cake and eat it too.
