Battlefield 1 is set to release in a few weeks. It is clear out there that the game most likely wont have rentable dedicated servers for communities like ours to host.

Battlefield 1 Won’t Have Rentable Servers

Battlefield 1 Server Info Inbound From DICE

How important are Dedicated Servers to the PC community? How important is it for you guys to have a punk free gaming environment free of disrespect and hackers? Post your thoughts below.

We need EVERYONES support. Share this thread with your friends. Show the strength of the PC gaming community.

Absolutely - I think we could have the entire EGO BF community behind this. BF1 just won't without some degree of control over over the server .

Yes for a dedicated server! There are people that can assure other people's experience will be good and without dedicated servers, there is no garentee people will not get caught up with bad people while trying to have a good time.

I will not be buying the game unless there are dedicated servers for it. If they do not, I will remain uninterested. This is just how CoD went, and we watched the demise of that game on the PC. Games with little to no control over the server are a struggle, and in FPS games where hackers are already very common, I don't think I would play without sort of admin system in place.

Without dedicated servers, gaming communities like EGO will not be able to customize servers to get the following like we have for our other BF games. We will not be able to enforce our server rules to keep them "punk" free, where players can play without being constantly harassed and insulted. At EGO we take great pride in the way we Admin our servers, and it has lead to our community growing to considerable size. Lacking the Admin ability of dedicated servers I feel will be a great detriment to the support of BF1 for all the PC gaming community and would have a poor effect on the games popularity.

bf1

There should be some control over BF1 or any BF servers. Trying to stop players doing wrong has to be stopped at all cost's. It's not FAIR on good player's who are legit.

I hope to see some kind of responsibly handed out to who do wrong, on BF1 or any BF server's.

I have been with BF servers over a period of time. As a player on my own or as a Community.

Community is what we need. We need to stick to-gather as a well earned Community.

And stamp out who do wrong, on our server's.

Carpe Diem.

Yes, DedServs are needed! As much as they are platforming and building to supply console gamers a better experience it is understood that no DedServs will heavily effect PC communities, especially eGO. To petition these rumours is a bold move and to make this go ahead we would need a lot of support from the community across all divisions and not just Battlefield.

If the rumours are true, that DICE is not going to allow DedServs then it's going to need a pretty big roar from the PC community to change their minds.

Dedicated servers are a must! But I will be getting the game either way.

Dedicated servers are the only reason I would get Battlefield 1 for PC, without those it would be just like a console game.

Exactly, I too will not be purchasing the game if there are no dedicated servers.

Dedicated servers are an important aspect of gaming. I'll start off by admitting I have a bias - I run a game server provider (GSP), and naturally, we sell a lot of shared game servers ("dedicated game servers") and physical machines to gaming communities, networks, and servers.

Not only do dedicated servers benefit the gaming communities that host them with more control over administration, optimization, mods/plugins, and other addons, but they also offer more choices. Most game developers have limited choices when it comes to server locations - they might use a service like Amazon's AWS or Microsoft's Azure, but even then, it's limited. By renting from game server providers, you as a customer are given an important choice - firstly, who you want to work with. Secondly, who offers the location you want. Thirdly, who you know has good customer support and service.

In addition, community-hosted servers allow gaming communities and clans like eGO to exist. I believe the social groups that play together surrounding games like Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, Day of Defeat, etc are an important aspect of gaming as a whole. Not only because places like eGO are simply fun to hang out in, but also because they do support an actual community feel. They allow gamers to make new friends and play games with each other in larger groups (who even likes 6-player matchmaking anyway?), allowing for more coordination and, in my opinion, fun.

That's not accounting for the game server provider's side of things. Game server providers and dedicated server providers are often, at minimum, a large part of a person's living. Sure - there are many out there that aren't even registered businesses, or don't follow good management practices. But many more are legitimate small businesses to the core, and depend on large-scale games like Battlefield, indie games, Source games, Minecraft, etc. to have dedicated servers. Many game server provider owners take great pride in their work, and are certainly important parts of the gaming community at large that often don't get properly recognized for that work.

Distributors like EA make it hard enough to host Battlefield servers as it is - licenses to host them require thousands of dollars, a complete audit, and the number of providers that can host them is limited. Not giving the opportunity at all is even worse, and frankly, GSPs can be a cost saving measure for the game developer - they don't have to spend the extra cash on infrastructure to support hosting official servers.

That's my two cents, as I have a fairly unique aspect of seeing both sides. Was written quickly, so please excuse any problems ;)

There are 2 markets for games...console and PC.

Without DedServrs then EA is not marketing to the PC community.
Someone else will. I will wait for their game or I will continue to play what we host right now.

I have too much going on in my life to waste time getting set up to play this game, then spend hours being base killed, griefed, and headshot from the same guy over and over.
There are way too many games to play than a non-admined BF1.
If EA goes down this road, then BF1 can go pound salt.

A good admined server is the only way I play PC multiplayer games.
Anything else and you are risking a sprang tongue.

Yes, dedicated servers! As everyone else perfectly stated above, I personally would not buy a copy of BF1 if it were without deficated servers; a lack of full server access can come across as problematic. The best way to go is if DICE decided to launch dedicated servers.

For those of you who don't know, Battlefield 1 will indeed have dedicated servers. The difference this time around is that they'll be rented directly from EA rather than third party hosting providers. Theoretically, we'll have the same level of control as we would with a hosting provider, just... less choices of hosting providers.

I'm interested to see if they expand this later on, if it might be just at the start.

I won't buy it until they have dedicated servers available. Without that, you might as well play on a console. I have 3 console systems and I refuse to play on any pub server as there are way too many immature players swearing, using racist remarks, and general griefing of other players. As of now, I will just stick to games that have dedicated servers with some measure of admin in place.

Why are dedicated servers necessary?

* Communities like eGO give EA customers a positive gaming experience by providing punk free, cheat free servers, and plenty of Woo.
* Special gaming mods and 24/7 servers of your favorite map maximize busy customers playing time for maximum enjoyment.
* Gaming communities build loyal bases that support games long after their shelf lives.
* Dedicated servers allow friends to play together and often against each other.
* More reliable connections - server providers livelihood depends on providing quality service to their customers.
* Our admins work for free. This allows gaming companies to focus on their core strength, creating games.

I'm certain there are more reasons than this. It's just a few bullet point items that popped into my head.
