Okay, we?ll admit we were off. Turns out Battlefield 1 will have rentable dedicated servers. However, you won?t be ordering from your favorite server provider like End of Reality or NuclearFallout (NFOservers). The Battlefield 1 Rent-A-Server program will allow players to purchase their own servers directly through EA. Rented servers will allow customization of game-modes, maps, and more. EA will handle server support in house as well. When needing assistance with your server you will now contact EA Support directly.

Unfortunately the ?All You Need To Know? article left us with far too much uncertainty still. We are still awaiting details on how admin functionality will work allowing server owners to moderate hackers and griefers. We have reached out to EA and will update when we know more on the matter.

Hm, I'm very interested to see if this is just at initial launch, or if they will eventually start licensing out to server providers. On the bright side, this could be good, as long as it gives us good access to admin tools, integrating our system, etc. We shall see how things go, but I'm gaining more interest with this announcement

I could see where EA could add better server in-game integration up front. If that is what their direction is...server in-game integration for modding and control of hacking. There would be value in that for the players and for eGO.

But if they are simply wanting to be the server middle man, that could be a failure for sure. No up-scaled value there, unless their price to the renter is low. But why would you want to break into that business when your core skill set is game development.

They have to be moving towards offering servers with good in-game controls for the server renters (admin). I would think EA could control the Hacking a lot better at that level.
This is a very interesting subject...

i called it almost 2 weeks ago when people were freaking out about the possibility of no dedicated servers

This could also mean that if you want to rent a server you have to get it through EA/Dice. More $$$$ in their wallet.
