I an currently in the process of building my own computer desk which will also double as an entertainment center since my desk sits in our living room under our 55inch led tv.
i am using glued edge lodgepole pine similar to this
I currently have:
1 24x48x1.25 inch board for the desktop,
1 12x48x1 inch board for the upper shelf part of the desk which the monitor mount and center channel speaker will be attached to and my a/v receiver, my cablebox and xbox 360 (xbox one on xmas) will sit under.
1 12x24x 1 inch board that my tower will sit on under the desk
This is the new case i bought to tie into the look of the desk and the rest of the furniture in the living room
1 18x14x1 inch board for my printer to sit on under the desk
1 12x36x1 inch board that will serve as the keyboard/mouse shelf that will sit 4 inches below the desk top and will stick out 4 inches from the front of the desktop
1 6x48x1 inch board that will house the cable management system I am creating to keep cables/wires neat and hidden from plain sight. My goal is that only cables/wires you will see is the speaker wires to my front and side surround speakers, electrical plug from the 10 outlet surge protector to the wall and the coaxial cable from the wall to my modem
All boards are stained in Miniwax Classic gray oil based stain.
All the boards will be attached using industrial steel piping like this
.
I will be using stainless steel allen bolts to assemble all the peices together
So far the cost of this project is over $300 but is worth it too me knowing i built it myself
As i work on this project i will post updates to show you how this comes along. This is my first time building any type furniture
