Tech Help Laptop for my parents

Here's the scoop; as techy as I might be, laptops have never really been my thing. My parent's are looking to buy something new to replace some very aged laptops they have. They'd love to spend up to a grand (Canadian) on something solid. Their last machine (a dell inspiron) lasted 7 years. I'd love to find them something with decent build quality.

What's out there currently? They don't game, but they don't want something terribly slow either. At least a 15 inch laptop would be great. I previously bought a lenovo for myself, do they still build a solid laptop?
