I wouldn't be too hard on yourself though Rowe, I think many of us can attest to saying stupid
things while under the influence. Just the other day, i texted my brother and sister that i loved them. lol
The next morning I felt kind of silly, but then I realized that's how I really felt, and that it was
actually something i should be proud of.
the drink just brings a lot of your emotions to the surface and makes them easily accessible, and
that's good and fine when things are going well, but when things turn south, it can make a bad situation
even worse. on that note, you might even make mistakes that cost you a lot more down the road.
When I quit something, I find it best that I don't make plans to quit, but just do it. Because I've
seen so many people, constantly trying to quit smoking, and they set "dates" for when they're going
to stop, and then they walk around telling everyone, they're "X" days sober, or "X" weeks going without.
then before you know it they relapse again, and then its even worse... because they're so disappointed
in themselves, and I think that's really even worse than acting a little silly when you're drunk, or having
the deficits of smoking. Is feeling guilty for something, and doing it anyways.
I think when people set a date for themselves, personally, I feel like it helps remind them that they're
missing out on something, and that date becomes a reminder of what they "could" be doing.
Then when something stresses or triggers them, they begin tempting themselves until they start it again.
I think that's why, the best way to go about quitting something, is not to make it a big deal to yourself,
just say hey... I can take it or leave it. If you really want to leave it entirely, that's good. Though I
also don't think its fair to you, to deny yourself from enjoying yourself from time to time.
A long time ago, I over-slept and I was late for work. I apologized to the boss, and he said it was fine,
he said Warren... everyone is late from time to time, just so long as you don't make a habit of it.
I think the same applies here, I think its okay for you to drink Rowe, and I'm sure your friends, above
all, just want you to be happy. Just so long as you don't make a habit out of it, that it starts becoming a
problem. its fine. So long as you aren't hurting yourself, or anyone else in the process.
Sometimes its good to just say what you did Rowe, as a reminder, that its time to change, if at least for a
little while, just so you can rise above it all and see where you stand. Then if you ever do decide to drink
again, you will remember the person you don't want to be, and strive to do better.
a true friend will endure a few stray words, or a comment made in haste,
so long as you don't constantly abuse your relationships, your friends can be very forgiving.
When I wanted to quit drinking hard liquor, I made a conscious decision to stop, and to make sure I was
serious about it, I took a full bottle and poured it down the drain... and so whenever I thought again that
I might want some liquor, I just thought back to my last bottle I poured out, and that it was just a waste
of money.
There is an old english tradition, that when you have a drink, you're supposed to pour one shot out, and
that drink is said to be for the angels.... so I like to think, I must've made some angels very happy that day. lol
We're all in this together Rowe, we're pulling for you,
so keep your stick on the ice, the bugs off your bumper, and the bears off your a**.
