Tech Help Not sure what to think about this graphical errors.

Yesterday i was having graphical errors in a few games plus when i restarted my pc bios massively pixelated. I assumed right away it has to be bad videoram / card. Proceeded to trouble shoot for this and had more issues. To be safe i reinstalled every graphical driver( knowing this shouldn't affect bios) plus checked if there was any known issues as when windows would be on normal screen no errors only bootup and in games. After a few hrs i decided to rma the card because it clearly seemed to be it. I restarted the pc and noticed the monitor itself did not properly go to power down mode so i tried to manually shut it off and it wouldnt. I put the pc in bios a second time and course massive pixelation errors. I unplugged the monitor and pluged it in. The errors in bios immediately stopped the screen was properly focused again. I restarted pc with zero issues and went into several 3d games that were having issues the day before and none of them have had any issues since.

Is this likely a monitor issue or refocusing it masked a failing videocard and if it happens again which should i look at as the culprit?

Curious, which games were having this issue? I know of at-least one other person that had a similar issue yesterday

Also, what computer specs do you have (including monitor)?

Yesterday i played King bounty. Starcraft2 ( these were around time of the issue)


Specs are

motherboard - asus z170-
ram - gskill 3200 ddr4 16 gig
processor - i5 6600k
video card - nvidia 980 ti with newest drivers
SSD - Samsung evo 500 gig
HD - 1 terabyte
Power Supply - 850w evga supernova
Cpu fan- cosair h100i ( i know i know this thing has alot of issues lol)

Yesterday this was happening to me on the game Black Desert Online but I have AMD STRIX R7 370 4GB and ASUS 21" monitor. then computer ended up crashing and upon restart I had a popup mentioning a Radeon Wattman failure or something. The pixel boxes were colored, not black though

No in windows itself it would not show any sign on desktop. It was only showing in directx games which is why i first tried to reinstall drivers and repair directX. Later in bios it showed only part of screen with shifted way right bringing it out of focus to the monitor ( + monitor driver wasnt shutting down properly with pc which indicates potentially vid card sending bad data or the monitor which is what slowed me from any conclusions.) the part that showed had alot of dots and dashes as well as windows before the nvidia driver kicked in forcing a refocus ( again making me skeptical a bit as to the culprit at the time.)

Since then i noticed a few minor graphical errors but nothing like that and coulda been written off as game errors like minor seperation between rocks ect. Last night though i got another tell tale sign of something being wrong. flowers at a certain distance in a bench mark would pixelate and would correct if i got closer. Another one showed seperation of graphics in certain areas of benchmarking ( Used Valley for flower test and Heaven benchmark on the one that had seperation.) Then i tried dying light which had minor graphical errors on buildings time to time in the game then othertimes no issues. Note it was always the same builldings which was why i was so hesitant to say Vid card. Shadow of Modor lastnight was the largest telling sign since the first incident. Whenever lightning struck the ground would massively glitch out and turn to boxes till the additional graphics disappeared. All these incidences the videocard temp even under full load never passed 80 celc and the power supply Never dipped at all either which is why i ruled it out.

Today im going to try different drivers again specifically older ones as i never had any system crashes with it outside of that one bios thing which again a bad driver can cause to happen as it confuses the monitor ( after shutting it off by unpluging the bios glitches haven't come back hence that suspicion)



*edit fire if its doing that you need to clean the card out of dust check its temps make sure its thermals good ive seen that before due to a card getting over heated but it could also be signs that card is going same as my situation im just trying to rule out any other causes before doing an RMA as i like to be certain out of courtesy to the company even if warranted.*

The picture I posted was just one I found from a search, not an issue I'm having (although could be one others, like Headshot, are having, or one similar to it)

I'll see if I can dig into it some more (Both yours and Headshots' post - need to wake up a little bit before I delve into tech help ) - Let me know if the driver test works for you

EDIT: Headshot, can you post more of your system specs, and also perhaps try what matt suggested with checking for dust & temperature?

EDIT2: matt98 - When you mentioned you played, say, SC2 for example - Is it a game you frequently play or occasionally?
(Basically prior to the day you mentioned you played it in your post, when did you last play it?)

I am playing more demanding games and am having no issues. It's in a safe temperature range, no dust and the card is less than two years old, I leave it at the factory overclock of 109%. It's a new game I had only been playing for two days, so no big deal.

Did you double check drivers. That really sounds like a driver issue.

Alot more obvious signs that its the vid card showed up today. Graphical tearing in bechmarking tools flowers glitching + issues with objects rendering in - edges ect overlapping meshes and other various type things. The card has been rmaed but i wont get the replacement for a few days so guess im stuck with this or using my laptop if it gets worst
