Had a great squad flying the HIND today. I got in the pilot seat when the tickets were still in the high 400s and we stayed airborne until the enemy was down to 25. Airborne325 was 2nd with no kills/no deaths. lol.

The gunner knew to shoot at tanks only when there weren't any other targets. He shot at the source of ATs. He took my hints if I veered off because of another target or we were being flanked. And you could tell the engi was paying attention. He did a terrific job of repairing when I wasn't dodging or looping.

I love the HIND, especially when you're with a good crew. I don't care if I pilot, gun, or stand by for repair, when it's crewed with people that know what they're doing it's a devastating support weapon - and a hell of a lot of fun!

One of the "little things" I never knew about for years was how to properly repair the HIND in the air. Since it always seemed kind of random when the repair gun worked, I thought you had to find the "spot" where the repair was needed...but it turned out that the helo just has to be in level flight. A lot of guys have a hard time staying still when they're being shot at, it's instinctive to dodge, but if you face the gunfire (the HIND is heavily armoured at the front) a good engi can out-repair even the vads.

Anyway, we worked so well together that I just had to post. Best flight for me in a long time.

The guys in back should be either shooting at ground targets or dropping mines....very effective for those mountain tank campers...:P of course while keeping up the repairs

I think you missed one tactical element, that of keeping the "Hind in the Sun". This is an feature that is only available to one side of the battlefield. Placing the the Hind, or the Havoc up sun makes it near invisible to anyone near B, especially the VADS. High in the sky over the flag at A or that general area will do the job very well. This makes it difficult to spot with the Q. The helo can be flown in a bit more relaxed manner at least until someone figures out it's exact position and gunner accuracy is improved. The only drawback is that this cover goes away as the Hind moves forward, if you have B then the VADS is probably yours too and tanks, AT's are your big problem.

Why DO gunners concentrate on a tank when there are so many other vulnerable targets in view? It's easier to kill an Apache than it is to stop a tank.

I always loved dropping mines or firing AT Rockets at tanks and helos then helping to repair to keep the helo up and running. You are right though any vehicle in any BF game needs a great crew to do lots of damages. The best ive had in BC2 was one crew in a tank and one crew full in the jeep. The jeep stayed right behind the tank and would be engineers to repair the tank quickly, fire rockets, and place mines. We rolled on for quite some time doing it that way and was like an instant pit crew for the vehicles

Heck, I have a hard enough time hitting helos from the ground much less the figgin' hind! LOL! I've dropped mines before with some success...haven't armed up with mines for a while. Seems pretty popular ingame these days, actually.

That sound like it was a hell of a lot of fun. It's funny eh, that a bunch of guys that don't really know each other, might be in different countries and even have an age spread of more than 50 years, can come together in some sort of serendipidously organised fighting machine. LOL! It's really too bad that the number of players has dwindled so much...the odds of that happening these days seems a lot lower.

That's a really good point! I guess it would depend on the position of the enemy you're trying to blind too...vads vs tank on B long ridge... and that actually reminds me of something....the sun *does* move through the game, right? It sets towards A? I'm not sure if it's my imagination or not. heh. But it would help with call-out spotting if we could use cardinal directions "the north side of the fan at A" sorta thing.

Unless I'm flying it to take a base, I try to treat the hind like gun platform by keeping the reticle fairly steady and the horizon as even as possible, especially when I'm flying backwards....which I do a lot in the hind. I've had some good luck dodging ATs even against some of the better shots. I always try to keep back of the front and I watch for them and let them get pretty close... then pull a fake left/right then reverse while going up or down. I might just be having a string of luck, though.

I dunno why they like to fire on tanks. I've argued here that it's kind of useless, but other people have had different experiences. If the tank it heavily damaged and/or you're hitting it in the back end with the warheads specialisation maybe it's worth it, and definitely as distracting/blinding fire, but only if there aren't other available targets.

Screen cap that ruckus! Didn't happen unless you got it on video!

Hey that was me! :)

It was, too! I don't know why I didn't mention you by name...I guess it was just having a 0/0 in second place was pretty weird.

We almost did it again the other night. Next time we're on the same RU team, let's try it again.

I have no idea how to capture video, btw.

Flying in third person and slowly and gently strafing is good too. Third lets you see more and be more evasive with incoming rocket fire and keeping an eye on tanks. And if you keep moving very slowly its hard for the tanks to bead on you correctly since if you move slowly enough its hard for them to notice you moving.

Nvidia has Geforce Experience which I believe can do it. An older one is Fraps but you might have to pay for that one...yet. There are others, I think I had something from Razor that would also screen record.

Publishing videos might be harder to do. I use Adobe Premier Elements but I haven't found a quality that works well for me yet. Most of those programs will probably be a purchase.

OBS is free and can record: https://obsproject.com/

If you have an Nvidia card, install Geforce Experience and Enable Shadowplay, it is free.

For exporting from Premiere, use H.264 then set it to YouTube 1080P for optimal settings.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't been collecting any content for any games for a while, but I'll write that down somewhere for later use!

There is NOTHING in BC2 that takes the place of good squad work!

What's really cool is to have to ENG in the back with warhead option, the pilot with smoke option, and the gunner with armor option. You really can out-repair the vads. And with a double warhead you end up with near miss kills on soft targets (like people!). When not repairing the two ENG can lock missiles on tagged tanks. I've only seen it once, but two missiles coming out of the hind at nearly the same time is a wtf moment!

I totally agree. Squads are really the only "teams" in the game....you get to pick who you're playing with, while the rest of the game is all random. Most people don't even care about the team. I don't worry about that big picture too much either...I concentrate on taking flags. Which, I guess, is the same thing in the end.

I usually fly the hind as recon because that's the character I keep smoke on [I was recon in the op of this thread]...and I can throw motion if we're able to bail over the enemy. My engi character has warhead. I never really thought about all combinations, though. It bears more thinking.
