Why is your server so bad?

It is impossible to play on your server, for two days in a row, with a normal steady connection.

The ping jumps from 50 to 200, repeatedly, back and forth, throughout the entire gaming session. The game freezes up, every minute or so, it is impossible to bring up a scope, the game just freezes for a second, and ignores the animation, ect.

I know it is not my internet connection. Because I just went to play on Blitz, on 1st MRB, and even on Anzac. Anzac, a server with 250 ping, was running smoother than your server. Did you do you anything with your server recently that made it this bad?

Same thing her cube, when I go to scope, my rifle has been skipping the animation and freezes for a second, and then the game catches back up and I have either click out of it already, or I just appear scoped out in the open ready to be killed. Thought it was just me. Been getting quite a few lag spikes that have resulted in graphical glitches too, allied players wearing axis uniforms, has happened 3 times now.

Just a curious question, but do either of you run Discord or Slack? Was having this exact issue with what your describing including deaths that caused the last sound to be repeated for 5 seconds while the image is frozen on screen and ping increase. I was able to get mine back to normal by killing stuff, and nothing fixed it until I killed my Discord, and My Slack window. Not sure which one fixed it or a combination of both, but I can turn either back on and I get the effect in game again that is described above.

My ping on Avalanche is about 260- 280 I normally have no lag and my game runs good the only problem is I am no good but I keep playing hoping a miracle will happen and I become good, oh the joy. But until then I will let every one kill me easy, that's why I play.

At least I don't, I don't have anything open when I gaming really, other than TS occasionally, but I haven't been on in quite some time, I've been paying closer attention to footsteps so I don't get fisted anymore. Steam and Google Chrome, that's it usually.

Cubey,

its very possible it could be adware that could be running in the background
and causing graphical hiccups and lag spikes.

Whenever you connect to an eGO hl2 server, the motd (message of the day)
window will open. Behind the scenes, HL2 opens up a IE web controller that
loads an eGO HTML document. The web controller goes through a program
called "SteamWebHelper.exe" and helps to display the webpage document.

eGO's webpage document has lots of ads that will connect instantly at startup,
I've observed somewhere around 30-50 ads being initiated at once... which
instantiates up to 30-50 steamwebhelper.exe processes.

The protocol, is for it to display the ads, and then close the connections.

You can also try typing "motd" in the game, and this can assist in trying to make
another call to close any ads that didn't close the first time around.

I've observed some ads or instances that haven't closed during the normal process,
so that's why it may be helpful to type "motd" later in the game... and check your ping.
it may spike again, due to trying to load the ads again... but might settle down.

Other servers like 6th and 1st marines, don't have the ads, so that could possibly be why
it seems a little smoother.

I have had some success by using my firewall to block steamwebhelper.exe after the game
is up and running, and then closing the processes. This works well, as long as you don't try
to access the steam overlay (shift+tab) or don't have to access your Steam Friends.

that way, eGO gets its ad clicks, and i can be certain that steamwebhelper isn't interfering
with my gameplay in the background.

I realize the ads help fund the server, but at the same time... I personally view this as a
security risk... you're basically allowing an Internet Explorer browser run in the background,
and all it takes is for 1 of those 30-50 ads to have some malicious code, to compromise your
machine. At one point, my firewall even quarantined halflife, because it deemed some code
injection to be unsafe.

every now and then i do notice some jittery behavior, but i haven't been able to pin-point it
to any one server in particular... more times than not, jittery behavior is usually due to behind the
scene CPU usage. Which could "definitely" be caused from something like an ad video running in
the background.

When the CPU-based lag spikes occur, sometimes i'll try typing "record demo" and "stop demo" in console ~ to get a refresh.

What might be helpful to you, in console type net_graph 3 or net_graph 2
to enable a visual interface to help shed some light on whats going on.

it may take some time though to sort out the meaning of your network statistics.

also open task manager, to verify you don't have any other programs interfering.

Lol, Nice to see you play on the same level as other players now, I have seen you move, scope and kill me before I can even pull the trigger, but that's Dods and the internet for you.
Hope your scope issue clears up for you, in the meanwhile I'll stick to ambushing London in the apts.

Between us London, do you notice only the elite complain. I think its because they can not accept that they missed a shot and therefore it must be the server's fault o.O

It is the server's fault. I can prove it with stats and with in-game demo recording.

The server works fine for me now.

Glad you fixed your issue Cubey. I was not talking about your issue, which sounded bad, but rather I was jokingly referring to the guys who swear they hit the person but the server didnt register it.
