Day of Defeat : Source
What would make our public
servers more enjoyable to play?

If you don't see an option you'd like, that you think would get people
joining our Day of Defeat : Source servers, I encourage you to post them below.

The idea is, what do you think would make the gaming experience more enjoyable,
and getting people joining our other servers, other than Avalanche.

In BFBC2:
- limiting the number of RECON to 4
- Get rid of Vads and AA at B
- Modding "Out of Bounds":
- so that tanks cannot camp top of UAV Hill
- Or Hill across from A
- Allow soldiers to go into forest between B and C, both sides

I have no idea how to Mod the above, so I have no idea the amount of work it would take.
I do know a lot of players leave BFBC2 to play BF3, 4, and now 1. And they come back to BFBC2.

Thanks for the Polls!!!

lol i said Day of Defeat Source, not Battlefield!

Kortaga, though i highly urge you pass that along to the battlefield forum. maybe they can make good use of your recommendations.

I'd like to see a rotation server with a few non-stock maps added in, map variety has always been my issue

I'd like to see a rotation server with a few non-stock maps added in, map variety has always been my issue

Every time there's been a rotation server its sat empty. Then we'd spend a few hours filling it only for the map to change and the server die again.

Get a better server provider where you can properly hit enemies.

yeah, I do remember it was difficult keeping the rotation server filled.

the other groups like 6th RB and 1st marines only have 1 server to fill as far as i know,
where we are trying to fill more than just 1 at a time, which may prove slightly difficult.

i honestly think our -best- course of action, would be to try to use the "spill-off" of avalanche,
to try to fill another.

the way the other servers run their rotation maps, is to cycle through only the standard maps,
ie Avalanche, Donner, Jagd, Flash, Anzio... and then, when there are enough people, an admin puts
up a vote for a custom map, and everyone decides.

So I'm curious if... when we ran our rotation server, if we might not have been putting off some of
our players with some really weird custom maps. I mean, people have "fun" running around shooting
each other... if they're not good at the maps we give them and they're constantly getting their butts
wooped, it makes sense they might leave for something more familiar and enjoyable to them.

plus, some of these maps could have been played in events, that the admins became familiar with... and
its probably not much fun for a new person, to get hammered by ego trying to fill the servers. I had a
friend invite me to play halo with him once... and because he had mastered the game, he just kept sniping
me left and right... suffice to say, i did not have as much fun as he was. lol

Another suggestion i'd like to make... is that we leave Avalanche the way it is, and remove Donner and Kalt as 24/7 servers....
we throw in a rotation server.... and we make it our "primary" go-to server to fill outside of Avalanche.
Because it doesn't make sense to divide our numbers, and it means we would still get to play our favorite maps like Donner, Kalt, Flash and Anzio.
Then maybe toss around the idea of throwing a custom map in from time to time.

We really only need 3 servers, around the holiday times, in my opinion... as many people are home and have some time to play.
That's the only time recently that I've seen all 3 servers packed.

What do you guys think?

Also, we could do a bit of branding as well... and instead of calling it =(eGO)= 24/7 Rotation Server.
we could call it =(eGO)= 24/7 Favorites

Because i'm thinking if we try to cast it again as a 'rotation' server, it might not catch on.

At this point the Kalt and Donner servers sit empty much of the time, unless they can be filled more consistently we will not be adding a 4th server. That being said, considering how successful our Avalance server is, I doubt we will be doing anything to change or modify that one.

I think you misunderstood my suggestion, I wasn't suggesting a 4th server... but to consolidate the servers
we do have, merge kalt/donner servers into one rotation server, that cycles through kalt/donner and possibly others (maybe anzio and flash)

that way we can work on focusing our energies on 1 server.

plus, i personally feel a friendly fire server would really do us a world of good. could be a bit of fun.

and to re-iterate, i think we really only need 3 servers, say the week before Christmas and Thanksgiving.
When we have peak traffic.

I know it has been brought up before, but I am not sure where we stand with it, but the Ranger announcements work quite well. It can reach out to people no matter what game they are playing, as long as they are in Steam, the call to arms would at least be read, perhaps not answered, but that helps a lot.

I think merging Kalt and Donner to have it rotate back and forth would be an ok idea, worth a shot.

The main problem that I have noticed over the past year or so, is the shot registry in our servers somehow is not near as good as others. I play in 70th ID here and there, and their shot registry is phenomenal compared to ours. If we could start with that, I believe it would spread around and people would come again.

Having mentioned 'people', this is the real issue. It used to be, you get the server started, and within 15-20 minutes, it would be mostly full. It may not stay that way, but it would get there. Now, 6 of us will go in and play for an hour, and after that hour is up, its still only the 6 of us. People are just not coming anymore, and I have a feeling its due to our rates and lack of shot registry.

Thats my 2 pennies,

Q

As Glue stated Kalt and Donner sit empty all the time unless its the same core group of people trying to fill either one. We have members who don't want to play because "it's not a full server".

It makes no sense to put 2 empty servers into 1 and leave it empty also.

We had a rotation server with tons of maps, and again the same group tried to fill it but it sat empty otherwise.

We lost Anzio with FF because it sat empty.

Simple truth of the matter is that members seem to just not give a damn anymore to seed a server or help fill it. They would rather constantly cap out with it 5 on 5 and kill any momentum they have. Worry about losing their imaginary points for their imaginary rank because some new guy joins and is taking their points waiting for others to join, or would rather just not play because AVA is full and don't want to put the effort into helping another server.

Now before anyone says "But, but, I work all day and I just want to play!" or "I go to school and just want to relax without having to start a server!", I get it, I feel the same way sometimes. I'm tired, i'm worn out, but I still do what I can, when I can regardless because these servers mean something to me. I enjoy playing on them, with my friends and our members.

If you are one of those core people that do your best to try and start a server and fill it, I applaud you. It is never easy and takes some dedication, but you give it your best and that is worth something. The rest of you need to step your game up. I'm not expecting everyone to suddenly be on a server 24/7 but a little help would be nice.

Until then, as we have already tried many of the things listed here in the poll, this topic is a moot point.

I honestly would love a server that was more... Arcade like. I remember having the most fun playing gun game where you start with a pistol and move up to final gun (not sure the list) then you're team would win once someone got to that final gun and made a kill with it. 24/7 ava cannot be touched. I hear way too often that ava is the only place people will play and its because its just a well oiled machine that isnt changing. However... I could see for instance a map that is a game mode. I love the events where we do things like zombies, realism, gun game things like that. Its a stale old game. To have 24/7 servers (besides ava) just seems like a waste when there is so much more to the game in a game mode sense.

we have already tried friendly fire servers and all it did was bring hackers and people who tk so we could not fill it

I don't play DoD:S almost ever but I can tell you "turn on friendly fire" and "more enjoyable" are mutually exclusive phrases.

... DeeLuxxed

okay, well i just came away from the =(ego)= Donner server a little bit ago... When I started, we had about 8 people.

The game peaked out at about 19 users, and it didn't take too long for it to fill up, so there is definitely an interest in the map.

I did pin-point a couple of "old" problems, that can "easily" be addressed.

The first problem, is that people are capping out the map too readily, and as soon as the victory/defeat
is registered, we lost about 1 or 2 people each time. So with a team geared completely toward capping, it didn't
take long at all for the server to dry up. It still stood a good length of time, but our team just kept relentlessly
capping out.

So one way to solve this, would be to put a scripted limit, that we must have more than 16 players, to make a
flag capture.

Another way, perhaps a lot more easier to script, and could be done promptly, is to change the "flag capture" time limit.
I think the instantaneous capture time, is too much for donner, as its not drawing out the game. I think its a different
sort of dynamics with Anzio, because you have 2 two person captures, and even those flags take longer.

That way... the people in allied/axis spawn, will be given a chance to get out of their spawns, before their last 2 flags are
captured... kind of like in Avalanche, you know the enemy is at your flag, but you know you have "just enough" time to
run and block it.

These small changes, could change the dynamics of the game, which i believe will help keep our users longer on the server.

another issue i recognized, is that with very minimal people... we had some users using MG guns
which personally I don't view that as a problem... an MG dies just as readily as any other class.

However, I do note that, many users seem a bit peturbed when we have a handful of people, and
they get mowed down by an MG. lol so that might be something to consider. people seem to vary
in opinion on this though, so might disregard.

I have played on several friendly fire servers, and to be honest, i've never seen that to be the case.

I mean, even with friendly fire off.... 3 weeks ago we had someone with an MG hacking script.... so that will always be prevalent whether
we use friendly fire or not. Also... on other servers, from time to time you get someone who breaks the rules and kills someone, and they
get booted out.

even when things are good, the admins constantly warn people... not to shoot each other in spawn.
This seems to work out well, with relatively minimal incident.

you're always going to get one bad egg that just disturbs everyone else, that happens whether its friendly fire or not.
we constantly have people in voice chat, spamming or acting out.... so you could just as easily make an argument that
we should turn off voice chat all together. Which isn't going to happen, because we admin that, just like everything else.

i think the friendly fire idea is cool though, because it teaches us to be more realistic, and not stand in front of other players,
and to make more critical decisions while our team mates are around. also combat is slightly different, as it means when faced
with 3-4 people... they are less likely to all shoot you at once, to avoid hitting their team mates... so its a nice twist i think.

however, for the sake of getting the server up with minimal changes, perhaps we might put the friendly fire idea on ice... unless other
people show some interest.... some of these other ideas though, i think should be carefully considered by leadership.

a bit perturbed is putting it lightly, lol!

Something I have seen recommended a few times, is increasing the secondary ammo like other servers do.

But at the same time... that's an extra plugin.

a kalt/donner rotation would likely help. Consider 3 people want to play donner 3 want to play kalt, you have two nearly empty servers. If all 6 play on rotation, knowing that the map they want is coming up, they may all join the rotation server. Also, someone suggested gungame. Either that or an orange map server would likely get some new people in. So instead of two emply servers we may have two more full servers.
