I have never played D&D before ever. I was trying to figure out how to and play a game. Roll20.net has a ingame D&D maps that the dm can manipulate the game board in many ways.
Has anyone played D&D before and would be willing to help/ try and get a game going on roll20.net?

If you've never played Dungeons & Dragons and wanted to start remotely, Roll20 is a good place to go. I would also recommend looking up actual play shows (at least one) and watching a couple episodes for real-play demonstrations. Look at Critical Role for an in-person campaign, or Critical Hit for remote campaign examples. They really illuminate the way the game is meant to be played better than the rulebooks themselves can ever do alone.

Let me know if you need any help!

If you need someone to play D&D with I'm up for a challenge!

I am hoping that I can get a group of a few people from eGO together to play some on roll20 every so often. But since I have never played I can't dm. A group I was with on Roll20 was "trying" to help me make a chara sheet. They were really condescending... made me feel like i was stupid when i had no idea what i was doing. So I left and came here to get info from you all.

Unfortunately, someone in every group of newbies does have to GM. It's a learning experience, but it's pretty unavoidable if you're doing it with your close friends because chances are they're just as inexperienced as you. I have introduced probably about 30-40 of my friends to roleplaying over the years by being a Gamemaster. If you'd like advice, rule tips, etc. for getting a D&D (I'm assuming 5e) campaign up and off the ground, I'd love to help you out. I can't GM or play in another game rn, but I'm always up for introducing new faces to the craft.

As a side note, Dungeons and Dragons is not the sole TTRPG out there. My friends and close family that I've run for have played DOZENS of the things. End of the World RPG's, Paranoia, Exalted, World of Darkness (mostly Changeling: The Lost), Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, FATE, Mutants & Masterminds, Fiasco, Tephra, Feng Shui 2, Legend of the Five Rings, and so much more... And our favorite system is unequivocally the new Star Wars RPG from Fantasy Flight games. So if swords and sorcery doesn't tickle your fancy after a session or two, don't be afraid to step into the shoes of Samurai, Cheesy Action Movie Characters, or Jedi - it's a wide world out there. Explore it!

Everything Nudist said^ Plus, best guy to watch for DM is Mercer. He is probably my favorite of all time that I've never had the privilege of playing with ;w; (He's even got a single situation line as McCree out there from a convention lol)

But along with Nudist, DM is probably something you can't avoid. Even if you're teaching your friends, at that point you're starting to DM anyway. It helps you RP better too! But there really are sooooooooo many tabletop rpgs for just about every genre and sub-plot you can think of.

I played D&D and Advanced D&D ever since they were first published. I still have 1st prints of the manuals. I haven't played in decades but I think I would enjoy joining you guys. Count me in.

I was given permission to start a group for us on roll20.

EdgeGamers Guild

I am in the very beginning stages of gettings stuff together. The more DMs we get the more often we can play. I only have a few basic maps added into start. One simple one I have created, an arena, and a guild house.

Once I also tried to play DND on Roll20. But I wouldn't recommend it to beginners. It is harder to remember the mechanics of the game, class descriptions. If you have to play on another platform or in real life, you can easily get confused. It's like learning to drive an automatic car and then switching to a manual transmission.
Therefore, I advise you to start with regular maps. I taught all my friends that. To make it easier to remember the classes' skills, I gave them articles with the D&D Guide. A lot of useful information, and everything is clear. Maybe, of course, I'm more of a hardcore guy, ahaha. But I think it's easier to feel the spirit of the game.
