For those of you that had surgical removal of impacted teeth, how did you respond?

I went in at 8 and there was about 30 min of prep (paying, paperwork, talking, IV, etc) and then I woke up at 10.

I didn't say or do anything silly, I was able to walk right from the chair to the x-ray machine and then out the door to the truck and walk around Walmart waiting for my prescription. Still awake at 12 now, not even that tired even after taking 2 percocet tablets.

They weren't simple pulls either, paperwork I got today has one classified as impacted - Completely Bony and the other two Impacted - Completely Bony with complications. I never had a fourth one grow in.

I feel kind of cheated, I wanted to fly and go to Dubai and be scared of zombies and all that like you see in the videos. They used General Anesthesia too! My tongue isn't numb at least, so that's a plus! I had root scaling and planning ( Deep Cleaning) back in December and the dentist used so much local anesthesia that even my nose was numb, I was numb for several hours after I got home, it wasn't fun.

I went in, was knocked out quick, don't remember a thing, hour or so later was up again and went to work that afternoon. I have the most uneventful wisdom tooth removal apparently. Although it was sore, I think I had those little burgers from McDonalds that you can sort of mush with your front teeth to eat haha.
 
I had just started my job as a developer, I was ~19-20 and it was within the first month of working that I needed to get it done. I didn't want the chipmunk face and swelling so I decided to go to a professional. I was put under and the last thing i remember was trying to count backwards from 10. Before I knew it I was awake in another bed and my teeth were removed. No swelling or pain. I didn't use much of the pain meds provided to me either. Within a day i was already eating solid foods, not sure if that was a good thing but I wanted to eat some good food other than soup :P
 
Oh boy, everyone loves a good (legal) drug story, so let me tell you about the time I had some laughing gas.

This was a couple years ago, but I still remember most of it. I was going in to get 6 teeth removed, 4 wisdom teeth and 2 upper molars because my mouth was too small to fit all my pearly whites.

I sit down in the chair, they put the gas thing on my head and tell me to count to 10, I remember making it to 6. A couple hours later I wake up with a mouth full of cotton. I'm feeling light headed and a little giddy.

I remained quiet for the entire ride home, don't worry, I wasn't driving, my mom was. When I got home I sat down to watch Netflix and realized I was pretty hungry. I went to check the freezer and I'm greeted by some mini pizza bagels. You're not supposed to eat for after surgery, but in my woozy state I didn't even stop to thing about it. I heated up the pizza bagels and started munching on them.

A couple minutes later my mom comes back down strains and asks what I'm doing. I just said that I was hungry and continued eating... I didn't get to finish my pizza bagels :/
 
aw, I think that is where I lucked out. I only waited a day before starting to eat solid food. usually people wait a week or so.

I was worried about being out of it and about wanting to go get a milkshake or burger or something, but nope, I was 100% there, so far only yogurt and a smoothie without a straw.

Not much swelling, but especially on the left side where I had the deep roots, my jaw bone hurts. Not a throbbing pain, only when I touch it, so I just don't touch it or chew anything.

Man Simon.... back to work that quick!, that's a nope, I got a note, using my PSL for a few days haha!

At least I'm seeing that not everyone acts a complete fool after getting sedated, I was worried about what I would say, you see all those videos being shared on Facebook and Youtube! Guess I shouldn't have stressed too much about that since I had been under GA before and was fine, but the videos made it seem like the Oral Surgeons used something different that makes you a total nut case, lol!

I asked the assistant about that after I woke up and she just started laughing and said she thinks people exaggerate, especially if they see they are being filmed or friends are around.

I waited until now to do it, and I turn 25 later this year, which is when you want to have them removed by, so as you can see, I put it off a few years :D It probably would have been less complicated if I had done it at 19 when my dentist first brought it up, so that one on the left didn't go so deep down into the jaw bone.

We have a lot of younger members here, so hopefully these posts can show them that it can be pretty uneventful and nothing to worry about at the very least!

Ironic. I'm 26, and have had over 18 surgeries, but none of them were for my wisdom teeth. I feel like I dodged a bullet on that one.
 
I think I may be feeling my lower left wisdom tooth come in, not hurting yet so I'll have to give it time to see if it will fit. I'm confused though, I thought they generally just used local anesthesia rather than putting you under completely?

Pretty sure it's a case by case basis.
 
Sounds like a fun ride you had. It's been a while so I don't remember it in that much detail, but it was actually the day after I graduated from high school I believe. But the story starts back when I had the honor of developing an under bite as a child. So yes, my bottom jaw was actually in front of my upper jaw. It even got to the point where chewing would occasionally hurt. Because of that, I needed braces for more than just a couple of years. I believe I got braces when I was 11 or 12 and had them until I was 17. Anyway, I was able to get that all taken care of and thought I was home free. Boy was I wrong. After essentially performing a 180 change on my mouth, my dentist informed me that my wisdom teeth were going nuts trying to grow in. All four were heavily impacted so I had some nice surgery done to get those removed.

I assumed going in early would be the best option so I planned for a 7am operation with the oral surgeon. He was a really nice guy too. He gave off that whole grandfatherly feel and made everything sound extremely simple. Luckily for me, despite my four impacted teeth, the operation went very well and, per my request, I even got to bring home my wisdom teeth. I was out of the doctor's office around maybe 9:30 or so and was escorted to my car by the cute nurse.

After that, it was a few days of fun eating mush and other soft food and I was also given a syringe-like object to clean out the incisions while everything healed on up. Really glad I got them removed though. Could not imagine having to deal with braces or other correction any longer haha.

As mentioned, it really is case-by-case. For example, if your wisdom teeth are growing in pretty straight, you can take a local anesthesia and have them cut and pull them out. In my case, where each tooth was essentially growing in sideways, I was completely out so they could do the operation as it was a bit more intensive.
 
Ooo Actually had mine at the start of the spring term. Remember everything since i just had some anesthesia shots put in my gums. It was really quick (took bout 30-45 minutes) since there were no difficulties though the dentist was really pulling that shit out with all his strength. Got a call from my dad wanting me to go to school since I finished a couple hours before class started. Remember him saying, "Just close your mouth", even after I said blood was coming out - made me laugh. 4 wisdom teeth removed
 
Well, it happened a couple years ago. It was around 6am that I had to be awake and heading to the place where it was happening. My mother (who was going to be the lucky person to take care of me during this) was telling me about how you get all loopy and weird when you have the procedure done since they drug you like crazy. I of course said that I would be fine and probably nothing would happen out of the ordinary. Little did I know that would be the opposite of what happens.

My main doctor doing the procedure was telling me how he plays basketball all the time and loves to be active. While I was slowly fading away into the drugged slumber, I kept telling him that I liked to play basketball as well while my mother laughed because she knows hows horrible I am at basketball. The next thing I know I am in my bed with my mother bringing me some water. I asked how it went as best as I could (since I couldn't feel any of my face). She said that once I first woke up from the procedure table, I was challenging the doctor to a 1-on-1 basketball match for anything he wanted. I was offering money, skins (way too much video games for me), and even my car.

Thankfully he just laughed and said he would probably lose. I then decided to tell the whole room about my adventures down at college (stories that should not be told to such a crowd). My mother has it recorded on her phone, but I dare not ask her for it knowing she would give it to others. To top it all off, I decided while walking out that my shorts were too tight and took the action upon myself to remove my shorts and be as comfy as possible.

TL;DR I am an embarrassing child and am not good at basketball.
