It's important to be transparent with what we are discussing in Leadership. While we can't keep you in tune with everything, we want to make sure we are doing right by keeping everyone in the loop the best we can. Currently we have two major concerns, both of which are servers. Italy & Jail. These servers have had their high points and their low points, but we are at a pivotal point for both servers.

Italy

We've had Italy a part of Counter-Strike since the first time I was in charge of Counter-Strike. It has been here for some time. However, with the shrinking playerbase of Counter-Strike: Source in favor of Global Offensive the servers activity has been dwindling. There haven't been many signs of improvement or a boost for the server. When we take a look at stats the server has been decreasing for some time.

server_rank.php

While I would love to keep the server as is, it simply is not plausible. It's a poor allocation of resources that our community members donate for. We need to do something better to ensure that money is being spend in the right places, and more so that money isn't being thrown away. While I hate to rant about the costs of servers and the community, it's necessary to help you understand why we need to make a decision in regards to this server.

To put it simple. Italy is not performing - it needs to be changed. We will be looking at our options. As it stand right now we are discussing a return of Office or Highschool.

Jail

I'm still blown away by the amount of support and love that Jail gets after all the time we have had it in EdgeGamers. We've hit some landmark goals over the last few months seeing jail crack the top 1000 servers for the first time in an extremely long time. With that said, it's nearly hit rock bottom as of this week.

  • Daily: #2,166 (-13)
  • Month-to-Date: (-448)
  • Year-to-Date: (+694)

The server has fallen into the 2000's and this forces us to bring up the question to what we are going to have to do with Jail. Is it being shut down? No. Is it being changed? No. However we need to ensure that we don't continue down the slope we are on right now. With how much fun we have playing jail, and how passionate our player base is I know that this server can thrive and be an absolute killer server placing in the top ranks. Our admins and the way we manage our server is like no other out there. We need to make sure we are doing everything in our power to bring growth and success to this server. Filling jail is as easy as getting a few of your friends in TeamSpeak, joining the server, and spreading the word that we are having a blast. How many times have we had a packed TeamSpeak room which turns out in Jail being as full as it gets. Nearly every time? I think so.

We talk about consistency all the time at the Leadership level. Our last Counter-Strike meeting and Clan Wide Meeting we explained that consistency will be the key of Jail's success. We can't continue to have really good weeks and really bad weeks. Every week needs to be a good week, and it surely can. We want to recognize the people that bust their ass helping this server and we surely will. Between our personal appreciation, promotions and medals we have plenty ways of recognizing your efforts. So let's do everything we can to get this server rocking... consistently.

I'll make you a promise here. If we get both Jail and TTT in the top 500 and both servers show the consistency we need we will add a third Global Offensive server. Okay, and I will give you your stupid truck wars for a weekend... you pains in the asses.

I do love the sound of a Highschool CS:S server. I might just become a CS:S main again (lol). In regards to Jail, there are many who say they love it but yet it sits empty. Words can only go so far, so if you love Jail and want to see it prosper then you will need to take some initiative. These opportunities are where leaders can grow and show their true colors.

Also, do it for your truck wars and 3rd server that has been begged for for as long as I can remember.

Have you thought about making a poll about the events for the next month and let people vote on the ones they like most. The ones that don't get the greatest amount of likes get removed off the "planner/calendar" and those that get removed get switched out with Jail or TTT events. Hopefully this helps to find a solution for the CSGO servers and raise their ranking.

This is also a good time to say, recruiting always helps and is easier than you think.

You know that tag-less player you see on TTT/Jail/Italy all the time that you love playing with. You like talking to them, they follow the rules, they're fun to play with. That player that regularly joins and is always hanging out. Maybe you already have the added on steam. You know, that one.

Ask them if they're interested in joining edgegamers. Worse-case scenario is that they decline/say no. A lot of times these people might show an interest in joining. Feel free to walk them through the process. You can even give them the TS address and talk to them over voice if it helps. Make sure they feel welcome and don't pressure people into it. Also, if you do decide to add them on steam, it never hurts to talk to them once in a while.

Recruit people you like and want to keep playing with. It never hurts.

Not sure what the deal is with Jail, but for some reason being a guard and especially a warden seems totally uncool these days. Often when I have played it's like 1:3+ ratio CT:T which is ridiculous. We need guards and especially wardens if the server is gonna keep up. Last time I played guard, there were 4-5 of us and it was just me and one other person actually picking up the warden duties, and the rest of the guards either didn't want to or couldn't be a warden. That really needs to be fixed.

I dont know why we fixate on the rankings so much. We all love jail and want to keep it. I even donated to eGO for the CS servers. Why can't we just disregard the rankings and have fun on the servers like we always do? This may just be my own opinion, but I don't see why we have to make a our servers competitive in rankings. We also had a third server before and it flopped really badly so I don't personally see a need for it. Even if we did get rankings up to 500 it would only last a short time before they drop back down extremely far.

Probably the fact most players want maps that hold their hands and make it super easy to play CT and have like few ways to rebel so they aren't killed and lose their KDR. That and they don't want to move the Ts around to have them play the games or just basically want to play on autopilot and not learn the maps or the gams it has to offer.

Too many CTs also don't want to try as apparently they love to bait and sit on the on the same floor as CTs when most maps offer catwalks or fenced areas thst protect them. It doesn't take a lot to play as CT just some common sense and effort.

The day servers fill up is the day people stop sucking up tbh. You should want to fill the servers cause it's fun to play not to gain something in eGO. So many people only fill when leadership is involved.

Just my 2 cents

They aren't doing it because they want to be high in the rankings (or maybe they do, but I don't think that is the basis of it). They are using the rankings as a measure of people actually playing on the server. We say we "love" Jail, but yet it sits empty most of the day because no one wants to play on an empty server for 10 minutes (yes, 10 minutes). That is about how long it would take you to get a decently full server if you invited a few friends in to just mess around while people started to notice others on the server.

Filling a server is not a difficult task, just go in Teamspeak/PM on Steam people to just get on the server and ACTIVELY play on it. Sitting in spectator when it is empty is nice, but then people who join will just notice there is no one actually in-game and just leave. Or you can just jump around and explore a Jail map you don't really know alone and get to know the maps while you wait for random players to join (I do it sometimes so when I am a guard I'm not completely lost).

I don't say this to belittle you or your statement at all. I agree, we should not just play on servers for a ranking. But Leadership is using the ranking as a basis for people actually playing on the server. If the ranking is lower in number, that means people are actually playing on the servers CONSISTENTLY.

One last thing before I end my little rant. I didn't quote Cryptex or Rogue's statement but I'd like to agree with them on the Guard situation. CT used to be an extremely hard team to get on because people would wait eagerly to be a guard because it was fun to warden. Nowadays Guards just don't use their common sense and creative thinking skills which makes it unbearable to play as a guard or even be a warden. I encourage everyone who reads this part (hopefully you are still reading) to try being a Guard AND Warden, but don't just do Climb and Race. Explore the map and try to be creative. People will leave if the game mode becomes to mundane.

TL;DR: Ranks are linked to players playing the server. Get a group of people to play on Jail, it'll take 10 minutes to fill. If no group, go on your own and explore/learn the Jail maps. Be a Guard and don't do the same games every single round. Be creative

Had a chat with someone a little bit ago. To quote them,
"instead of "hey you're a shit warden get off ct"" say "hey man that was a good try. i saw what you were trying to do, but maybe next time try xyz!"
It's important to try to get people to CT and take Warden, but it's also important to make sure people don't feel nervous doing it because they're worried about getting trash talked instead of helped and encouraged. You can't expect people to be a good CT or Warden if they're never given the opportunity to learn or the constructive criticism needed to improve. Of course, there will always be people that refuse to learn and just are overall bad wardens / CTs.

tl;dr: Help people help you. If you guide people in the right direction as a CT or Warden it will make jail more fun for you and everyone else.

P.S. I'm not trying to plead innocent here. I've been guilty of the above, but I plan to change my mindset and I hope anyone reading this does so as well.

Very well said.

It boils down to us being responsible with the money that everyone donates to us. If we have an empty server, that's money being spent on an empty server that could be spent on something else that players will use consistently. Unfortunately running a gaming community isn't as easy and throwing up a bunch of servers and left everyone to crazy. We have to be responsible staff in using the resources we have accordingly with respect to the money people donate.

I don't want to be rude by saying this but every time I've seen the CS division get a new server it has flopped miserably. The minigames server lasted awhile and people loved to play every now and then but it was removed because leadership thought it wasn't played enough. Then they made LMS, which imo, was way too idealistic. The only time I saw people on was when admins were on and consistently advertising it to get other admins on. Jail and TTT bring in many new players and are fun for admins too. Jail might not be as active as last year but I guarantee most of us money spenders in the CS division would never want to see it removed. Thats why I don't care about rankings and all that what not. Sure rankings can show activity but the whole community shouldn't be constantly bombarded with FILLJAIL/get on jail/ JAIL!!! etc. We should just play it as we usually do when we want to. I also agree and disagree with Killroy's statement. Some people do fill servers when leadership ask just because they are trying to suck up, but not everyone does that and you can't exactly prove it all the time.

people should play jail because its fun. people not playing jail = jails not fun. i blame the meh cts and ts spamming nutty.

TTT. the end.

TTT. the end.
I see the CT problem, and I've talked that point that if the CTs don't possess a threat or challenge the Ts get bored.

However, spamming NUTTY? While yes spamming is a problem that I can admit I've contributed to, that's not killing the jail server
