Battlefield 1 Did BF1 actually hurt the franchise?

I know I have posted on here a few times with my disappointment with BF1. I know other players both in and outside EGO have shared the same feeling. I know prominent players well known in BF have called BF1 a casual game for many reasons and have shared their frustrations as well.

Furthermore, we have yet to establish a good EGO server (at least the times that I have been on, I have not found a very populated EGO server). In the BF4 days, we had three solid servers. 24/7 locker, Siege, and the rotation on conquest. I don't think this exists with BF1. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Furthermore, I don't see many posts about BF1 on edge-gamers. There was a good flow of posts when it first came out, but IMO it's rather quiet. BF4 topics had a great steady stream to see how people were enjoying the game.This is not an indictment towards the community at all, just a curious thought on the coloration of the game.

Again I think it can't be much more frustrating to play that actually having fun with it, which is why I find myself going back to BF4. However, the problem with BF4 is I have logged so many hours on it that it's not "new" I even try to vary it up with playing different modes, but not many people are playing different modes.

I dunno, just wanted to get thoughts from other members.

Yeah, I still play it because of how beautiful the game is, but the rock/scissors/paper ideology and skill based gameplay was lacking in this release. Basically, you can vehicle whore all day, or die. :-(

I think the overall problem with BF1 comes down to the community. People have begged non stop for a WW1/WW2 Battlefield game, but it was only for the novelty of it. I don't think these same people thought it through and realized that it just wouldn't work. I think BF1 looks amazing, and absolutely love the old style look of the guns and tanks. However, I cannot get into BF1 at all. The gameplay feels....odd. I can't describe it, but it just doesn't feel right like BF4.

I think BF1 did hurt the franchise much like Hardline. This would make the second Battlefield title where the game has been a let down and hasn't lasted. Yes, there are still people playing BF1, but for how much longer? I don't think the game's longevity will be able to match BF4 at all.

The only excuse for hardline would be that game wasn't intended to capture the same feel as a typical BF. They tried something different and it didn't work. BF1 is supposed to be back to basics, but they changed too much IMO.

It's interesting how the responses that the redeeming quality is it's beautiful. This is not enough to keep my attention is the gameplay is frustrating.

What has screwed Battlefield is they catered to the consoles, BF was a pc only game and it played like it, BF1 however plays and feels like a console game. EA and Dice have turned their backs on the pc community by doing this, seemingly forgetting that the pc community was the one that made them famous. I do not look forward to the next BF game, hell I can't stomach BF1 now and I hate to imagine what they will do to the next one.
You got people running cheats so they can get the vehicles faster, cars that disappear if you run over a rock, some of the crappiest maps they have ever put out oh and if you do too well they just ban you....etc. I am slowly getting back to the place where I was before I joined eGO, and that is boycotting EA/Dice yet again.
You want some real fun try reporting somebody for hacking or cheating after sending in your 20-30 screen shots you just might get a reply.

Same here, it's just a waste that such a good looking game is really poor. They dropped the ball.

BFBC2 is always open for new and old players!

Although going on 7+ years, it still hits like Lucille.
Graphics are great, physics engine is the best BF has ever created. And hasn't even come close to duplicating.
I had read somewhere Dice didn't create the engine, they got it from some other company. I could be wrong.
Bullet drops are fantastic, weapons, vehicles and the 4 classes make the game evenly matched.
And the maps are all fun to play.

oh...all snipers must die!

The accuracy is just what I can't stomach on this game. I have tried all sort of tricks and adjustment in the game and I just can't make it work. I go back to BF4 and I am like "MY gosh I can make medium range shots now, clicking my shots is actually working!"

You're not alone in that Don. There are many times I've felt I shot just like I would have in BF4 and I get nothing. No headshot indicator, no kill, nada.

If I could only bring my AEK to WW1.....

And you know they could fix this easily with a patch and I would be back in a heartbeat.
