I would have thought I could google this and gotten 10,000 results, but I guess I'm the only fool who can't figure this out....?

When I change my settings in-game, they change back as soon as I close the game. WTF?

How do I either make them not change when I close game or change them permanently by some other means?

And yes all my cfg files are NOT marked as read only. That's right, right?

Thanks!

If your CFG files are not read-only, then my only guess is that you've got settings defined in autoexec.cfg that are being run when you start the game.

If that's not true, then you can always set your settings in autoexec.cfg so it does just that. It won't explain why your settings are resetting, but it solves your issue.

Ok, I guess I'm way off. Here's the deal:

I'm talking about my video settings. The "recommended settings" lag my machine when things get real busy on the screen. I want to turn my video settings down, but every time I run the game the settings all go back to "recommended settings".

I can't find any of the advanced video settings in the cfg files in TF2. Anyone know what/where these settings are?

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Guess I have to do new reply to bump. Sorry.

They usually have pretty self-explanatory names.

I don't know them off the top of my head, but they usually start with mat_ for video settings.

And you can start the game with -width X -height Y in the launch options to start at XxY resolution.
