Suddenly slowed to a crawl

Recently after I installed a new Graphics card (Nvidia 7300 Geforce LE) my computer has started experinceing incredible slow downs. Programs can at times take a while to open (it isn't very consistent) and when the screen saver is up moving th mouse only brings up the taskbar and not the rest of the desktop. I'm not sure if teh GC has anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the correct drivers but that is the only thing that has changed before and after the performance problems. Also it seems to get worse teh longer the computer is on. Restarting helps but not for very long. It is either that or viruses our virus scanner recently ecperied and we negelcted to get another one.

Have you tried defragging your pc? That usually helps after you install new hardware and software. If not, it could be that your processor cant handle the new video card.
Btw, for the defragging, you could either use the Windows app for it, or download the program called Diskeeper, it does a much better job than Windows, but costs money so either use the 30 day trial or torrent it.

Any more information about the system, such as power supply and processor?

If your power supply wasn't used to having to put out enough power for a graphics card (though a 7300 isn't really much of a draw by normal standards) it may not be powering things properly, even if you don't get the usual nVidia "not enough power" warning. Sometimes enough power gets to the video card, but the motherboard, RAM, and processor will have undervoltage issues and glitch out severely.

Thanks for the responses guys but I think it was just too much junk. I deleted all the internete stuff (cookies and what not) and used the disk clean up and it seems to working properly or at least better than it was. If problems persist I will try your suggestions

if it's junk in the system, head over to download.com([link=hyperlink url]http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10315544.html?tag=lst-1&cdlPid=10837066[/link]) and pick up CCleaner. This is a great little program that will clean up all your temporary files, as well as do some registry cleaning. Also, you might want to pick up adaware and spybot if you don't already have them and do a couple scans for malware - they can really drag your system down.
