With OpenIV having the legal issue's its had recently, do we see any issue with this arising in the future? Will modding my game this way cause me issues using GTA5 in the future? I'm reluctant to try this.

1. FiveM has been threatened and successfully taken down once before so they are prepared for what may come their way. Currently, there has been no announcement by Rockstar or Take Two of any other legal action towards any other members of the "creative community". The reason OpenIV was shut down was because their program assisted modders who would get online and troll in GTA Online. FiveM does not allow that capability and has nothing to do with GTAO so I doubt there would ever be a problem.
2. This is why on our guide on the GTA forums, we recommend a backup. I believe that FiveM places a couple of files in your GTA directory but not enough to cause a significant impact. I spoke with firehazard earlier and made the recommendation to have two copies of the game, one for FiveM and one for GTA Online. Then when you want to play one or the other you just move that folder into your steam folder or Rockstar folder, depending on the verison you have. Additionally, those who join Fire/EMS/Police may get some client side mods later down the road which can cause more of an impact.
Finally, as long as you make a backup of your game and ensure that if you ever go online that you are using the correct copy, you will be fine. I have someone working on a video guide of our installation guide that may show the backup process a bit easier.
