tf2 graphic problem

First not sure if something like this was posted before. Didn't know what to search for. Anyhow i have this graphics problem. Image follows. it effects almost all the level.I havent seen it in a while. It primarly happens on valve made maps. Dustbowl, badlands, 2fort were the ones that gave me trouble. Now goldrush. This isn't a computer dependent problem. This is on both my laptop and desktop. One GPU ATI, the other nvidia.


Note its not just that one area. Almost all of goldrush except for the ground is like that. Any suggestion.

I've never seen that one. Are you doing any alt-tabbing out of game? Also, it could simply be a memory issue. The gist of it is that it looks like both of your machines are probably having trouble loading the correct textures.

I ask about the alt-tabbing because I tend to get a few graphical glitches when I alt-tab out of game. Mostly, I'll get a pink and black texture instead of what the correct texture should be.

Lastly, are you using any software that may hook into your video driver in some way? It's been a while, but I do remember getting some weird graphical glitches when I had VNC server installed on my machine. VNC is a remote control application that actually hooks into your video drivers on your machine in order to display better quality on the client machine. Once I uninstalled VNC, the the graphical glitches went away.

I'd say to check on those two things first. It looks to me like both of your machines coincidentally have the same problem, as texture display problems are solely a client-side issue.
 
Alt tabbing not while in game, under both of my machines rf2 seems to minimize to the desktop at about 80-90% connection to the service. Other than that i dont do any alt tabbing. As to services my windows installs are bare bones, because i use linux for day to day tasks. So steam avg spybot, comodo firewall. Are the only services that are running. Both my desktop and laptop are configured primarily the same. I figured it was most definelty a texture issue,and client only. Because when i asked one time i got a bunch of wtf's. Just wasn't sure how to fix it. Anyone else run these services under windows

comodo firewall
steam
avg antivirus
spybot search and destroy.

Those are the only real services running.
 
My laptop wont allow me to upgrade the graphics drivers. Its a dell laptop. It seems the ati card doesnt conform to the driver identification standards. Essentially i can only use the drivers that came with my laptop. Which are rather outdated now. Irks me because under linux im running the latest ati drivers.

My desktop which has the same issue i use the latest nvidia drivers. The settings differ between my two machines as well. My desktop, has everything on high and maxed. My laptop is low-medium. I cant get on my desktop on this moment. Due to i had rma the graphics card. Before that is thought to be the problem. That card was aquired through evga stepup the previous card also had the issues shown.

Is it possible a game file is corrupt? And thanks all for the responses.
 
Hmm... I'm running steam (of course) and AVG on my desktop machine, so you can pretty much rule those two out. I wouldn't think that Spybot or the firewall should affect your graphics performance, though.

As for the drivers on your laptop, I feel your pain there. It's apparently very normal for laptop manufacturers to utilize non-standard, slightly customized drivers, and ATi themselves will redirect you back to them. Sucks, I know. I've been there with every single one of my Windows laptops.

If anything, I would think it would be a missing texture. When I alt-tab, sometimes I'll see messages in my console that state something along the lines of "can't find texture y". The messages are easy to notice since they are in red.
 
have you always had this problem, or has it cropped up recently?

one easy thing to try is have steam remove all of your local game files, then re-download and install TF2 - maybe something glitched along the way...
 
Do what trykael said to do if it keeps persisting and you have tried EVERYTHING...and for your question about background programs...i have 3 AV running, Daemon virtual CD, AOL IM, Verizon sync, Quicktime, and everything else under the sun, so i doubt it has to do w/ background probs, but i am not 100% sure
 
It looks, and this is a stab in the dark just from the screenshot, that this may be a case of your video card either failing or over heating. I say this simply because it looks like on particularly type of texture is being replaced with a junk image. Anytime that happens, my first thought is to the video card.
 
i'd agree with lafinass about this - how hot is your machine running? grab something like speedfan and post us a few numbers - maybe you're just overheating. i know it's strange that you're seeing it in both machines, but it's quite possible your laptop is having a heating issue as well......maybe?
