Tech Help Looking for a gaming desktop

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a good gaming desktop that's under $800. I'm not interested in building my own.


I currently have a MSI GP62 2QE LEOPARD PRO laptop.
It works really well but it can't handle big games like GTA and Battlegrounds.

Should I go with this one? If not, what are some better ones that are under $800?

Gonna be 100% honest here man, outside of building you own, for $800 you will just be throwing money away, really. All these prebuilt machines are overpriced for what they are and never include great components for the price (unless you pay a ton).

That particular machine is dated at this point and has a very poor graphics card.

Building your own machine is affordable, easy, and there's a lot of tutorials and choices. Your future upgradability is much easier too. Are you sure this can not be an option for you?

I'd also suggest saving up a bit more to up your budget a bit more. Extra few hundred dollars will leave you a lot happier in the long run, instead of being in this same situation in a year or two, considering the games you want to play with it.

Ok so if I made my budget a bit more, and decided to build my own. What would you suggest getting?

Just something I quickly threw together, we can always tweak it more as the time comes to actually buy parts and such, but:

Brand new line of processors, an SSD, and a pretty good range graphics card. Hovering just above $1000. You'll have to do keyboard/mouse/monitor of course but I think you get the idea of what a few dollars and building yourself can do.

I always suggest having the money ready then finalizing parts too - things change quickly in the PC world often so once you're ready, then we tweak and finalize parts to fit the budget

The build Simon has is great but it does not include the price of the GPU for some reason. Only advice I would say is maybe swap the 1060 for a 480/580 or second hand 980ti which can be found on the cheap if you live in a big area.
