Came home today, fired up the computer, and it posted then blank screen.

Tried to fix using boot disk and repair. No go.

Tried to reinstall keeping settings. Got an error. No go.

Tried to format and reinstall fresh. Got same error. No go.

Went to bios, and onboard SSD is not showing in bios.

Will try tomorrow removing SSD and see if software will install on the hard drive.

Hoping the damn reinstall software has to have the SSD to load since it was the boot drive.

Otherwise, ordering a replacement onboard SSD 500GB.

this happened to my husbands computer have to just keep fiddling with it basically something in that latest windows 10 update messed something up with his.
 
Aw man, no good at all. And we were literally just discussing SSD's this week. Keep us posted!
 
ah... I hate when my pc goes rogue on me, usually have to give some money and promise to improve work environment...

My problem is the SSD is a msata.

I was planned to move to an SSD sata3 2.5 1tb this xmas.

I have googled all day trying to get a glue of the error I am getting. Now, I fear this damn Dell restore is dependent on the msata functioning as the boot drive. I might bite the bullet and purchase win 7/8.
 
Bear, what errors are you getting? (if any)

If the SSD isn't being detected in BIOS, then its possibly a bad SSD disk.

Someone once told me, one reason why they don't like SSD's is that when they fail...
they fail all at once and can't be recovered. Why they preferred 7200rpm disk drives,
because you usually have a 'grace period' between identifying when a drive is going
bad, with clicking, before its actual failure.

What I would do in your situation... try a different SATA power cable, then try a different
SATA port... then possibly even a different SATA cable.

I've had a bad SATA connection that led to blue screens.

My next step I would try, would be to reset your bios. Turn off PSU, hold power button 10 seconds,
to drain any residual electrical activity. ground yourself (touch metal). then locate your bios battery
on your motherboard, unplug battery. turn on PSU (power supply). let boot (possibly confirm reset of checksum)
power off. Turn off PSU. hold power button 10 seconds. Re-insert BIOS battery. Power on.

If that doesn't work, try inserting drive into another computer to see if it detects it.

If it does detect, might be able to run some error checking, or try to fix master boot record.

Judging by the BIOS not detecting it... it is likely the drive its-self, could try carefully taking
it apart... maybe clean the PCB board, and scan for any indication of short circuits. (possible blackening of pcb)

Other than all of that, would just try rebooting several several times. Maybe worst case scenario,
try plugging in the power cord the second it boots into BIOS... not the best solution... but sometimes
you can glitch these things into working.

He uses an m.2 SSD, which connects directly to the motherboard. So probably just a defective unit. Unlikely the motherboard or he would be having more issues.
 
yeah, its not likely the motherboard, but can't tell you how many computers I've had issues
resolved, just by BIOS resets alone. Especially if its going to a blank screen after reboot, and
not prompting for a hard drive.

He does indicate though that there is some sort of error, so that would be worth investigating.

BIOS reset (ie hard reset), is just some of my standard troubleshooting advice.
like i said though, I've had so many issues resolved from a simple bios reset.

only 2 months ago, I fixed a friends laptop from a simple bios reboot, that the graphics failed to work.

Ahhh i heard Dell have same problem with SSD lately as because my friend got one it so frustrating u would guess my friend just kick Dell out of the house and did build own computer for better they got Samsung 2TB that bloody expensive cost around over AUD $1,000
 
Well, it will be off-season for killing the BearKiller for now. I'm sorry to hear about your computer. I had horrible problems in the last 12 months with my computer(s) but knock-on-wood I think everything is good now. I'm not tech savvy but will share what happened to me and ultimate fix.

Received a 2 year old Dell Gaming computer during my divorce. :)

The computer began having sound issues with my headphones. (long story)

Dell Repair came out and broke my computer

After a two month battle with Dell they gave me a "refurbished" new computer with 2 Geforce 1080 graphics things, an internal pcie SSD and a regular hard drive. (Yes, I was in shock because this computer is amazing). Things were going well but was having program "hanging" issues.

I don't know if a Windows 10 update caused it...or if the pcie SSD went bad. But I had the same issue that you did. After Dell tried several things they sent a technician and replaced the SSD and everything has been working beyond amazing now. The PCIE SSD is sooooooo small. It isn't like a regular large hard drive.

Hopefully you were able to get your computer fixed. In my case it took a new hard drive.

Thanks for all the info. I have ordered a new msata 500GB. Hope it fixes my restore issue.

With this downtime, I have been fixing, painting, replacing hail damage on the house that I can do, and contracting out the rest as windows replacement, new garage door, replace roof and gutters.

Got the new SSD. Easy swap out.

Ran into a problem with the Dell restore. Went and bought a retail full install version of windows.

Learned the Dell restore kept partitioning my SSD into several partitions. It is not smart enough to check if partitions are already there, which is why it would fail during restore attempts. When I used full windows install, I could see 8 or so partitions on my SSD. With the windows install, I was able delete them. Now just updating and reinstalling apps.

After a couple of days, still d/l games, re-configuring keys to work that way I remember. Have DoDS almost there. This windows 10 is so getting use too. Mouse settings still don't feel right. I figure it will be a week or so to get most of the games and settings back.
