They are definitely wrong about ketchup, but they are definitely right that a hot dog isn't a sandwich. When I was younger if I ran out of hot dog rolls I'd just cut a hot dog in half and put it between two slices of bread. That is a hot dog sandwich. A hot dog in a roll is a hot dog.

We must strive to end this culture of shaming a hot dog into considering itself a sandwich simply because it is different!

I think it is a sandwich but I wouldn't call it one You can't argue it's one piece of bread instead of two. A sub is a sandwich and it is one whole piece of bread unless you cut it down the crease. In addition, bakeries slice those same loafs of bread that are used for subs, and sell them for people to either dip or make sandwiches with too. Square sandwich bread even starts as a whole loaf haha.
