Intel I9 or Xeon E5 gold?

Well if you are looking for gaming these will perform worse than a 7700k these are more meant for workstation so if this if for a server then maybe but these will cost a lot and will preform worse. Its like getting a quadro for gaming, its not meant for it.

i agree with squrl, the I7 7700K will handle any gaming needs currently, paired with a graphics card of that caliber.

Xeon's are for workstations, they are not meant for gaming. Sort of an apples to oranges thing here.

I wouldn't suggest a Xeon unless you need the features it offers, such as ECC memory support, increased memory capacity & channels, and scalable socket configurations. You can't overclock much on Xeon chips, typically only BCLK is adjustable and only on some boards. Most workstation boards won't even have overclocking options in the BIOS, even more so because these new Xeon Gold and Platinum chips are running on Socket P (LGA 3647), meaning limited motherboard supply compared to LGA 2066 on the i9's. They also cost an arm and a leg.
