Hello,
This is JustifiedKill.

I have said it before while Admins are on but no one has acknowledged what I was saying so I am posting it here.
The server needs to go to a 2 Sniper Max per side. Other servers do it and I think it is time this one does as well. This would cut out campers and cussing about campers that I and others do. This is goes hand in hand with it being a "conquest" map and a team based game.

Other players have said this is also a good idea so I invite them now to express their approval or non-approval to this idea.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

JK

We do not limit player kits or play style as long as they follow server rules. That being said we will not be limiting the number of any kits use in our servers, players play whatever style they want.

Who are you in the game?

I agree with jtipton... limiting the number of snipers will prevent me from changing to that character through the game, which I do with all characters on a regular basis - it depends on the situation.

Also, people whine about recon but good ones have a definite positive influence on the game...spotting, motion detection. Usually when I switch to recon it's because no-one's spotting on my team. Leaving a maximum of 2 means whoever gets it first gets to keep it...even if they suck balls as recon.

Recon is the "slowest" of the personas, too. I couldn't play assault for a long time because close quarters was just to fast for me. It took a lot of practice to become the fine killing machine that you see before you now. LOL!!! The game is old but there are still new players coming on board.

I don't bother with campers because sometimes they're not really camping...they're reconnoitreing...sometimes.

One last thing...I did some heavy bitching about an admin that was giving me grief about how I play. Justi, you know me, do I camp? But, nonetheless, I was accused of camping and kicked. It was a mistake, but what it comes down to is just don't let other people's play style bother you. Are there too many recons? Most times, yeah, but who gives a crap? They die just the same as everyone...maybe make it your mission to kill recon? lol...that might be fun.

I and some of my fellow players "whine" when half the team is snipers. Today with Kortoga in the game there were 8 snipers out of 16 players on the American side. This is my problem. It is a conquest map and a team based game. I hope there are more regulars that will pop in here and give me their opinion. If I am wrong then maybe I will just go play elsewhere.

Sorry man..."whine" wasn't the best word to use there...I do apologise. But I understand where you're coming from tho, too. I think a big part of the problem is that anyone that buys the game and goes looking for a server finds ego's. There aren't many others left, so you end up with a lot of low-skill snipers...and 3-flag domination...which I hate.

My view of the "teams" in the game is a little different. There's no choice, nobody's "picked"...the only real team is your squad.

And like I said above...sometimes I like to play recon, and I like to think I'm a good one. Limiting it to two a side would make the game less fun for me. But that's just me.

In the game I'm a level 50 with over 2000 hrs of play time. In the BF Division I'm the DL. Heavy Metal has been running 1st or 2nd in the world for years. Why would we change our rules to be like servers that are rated below us. In the future if our ratings begin to drop we might consider changes such as limiting kits, but as long as the server keeps it's ranking, we will stay with what works for us.

I hate snipers.
Well, not really, because I will pick up that dusty SVU and lay down some long distance death when I cannot seem to kill you close quarters.

The sniper class is a great class as long as the sniper is doing his job, which is to hide out, spot, and kill from distance.

A good group of snipers can help keep a team of attackers inside B the entire game by hiding out and spotting anything that comes near B.

The problem most people have with snipers is the player does not know how to play the class. And there fore shoots at targets without spotting at the same time. So when you hear me say things like I hate snipers, I really do not hate the sniper class, I hate how the players are playing the sniper class at the time.
Some guys play the class like a pro and pretty much kill everything. I hate those guys too. lol

Some games I like hanging back and killing people from distance.
A 2 sniper limit per side would not be good in my opinion. Because when I die and want to hurry up and spawn as a sniper to kill someone who just killed me and I get the message, "all sniper positions filled". I will get aggravated. I switch classes during a game as it is appropriate during the game due to location, who I can spawn on, what just happened, and how well we are doing.

I'm going to take it slightly off topic and put my want list under the door.
Limit the number of times an engineer can use missiles on infantry, they'll have more to keep the heli's and tanks under control then. Software is in use on other servers for this.
Base rape is also part of the game but we do not allow it. Either allow it as some other servers do or install software that instantly kicks enemies when they enter, it happens on other servers!

Jtipton: My apologies as I was not calling your credentials into question. I was just curious if you have been playing recently? It seems as though there is a higher amount of snipers in the last few months. We also have a higher number tank campers but I digress.

Kortoga: I agree that the problem is the fact that the snipers in the sniper class do not know how to play that class well. They do not spot or throw motion sensors. If they DO know how to play that class they will last longer on the battlefield than an inexperienced sniper and hold the class slot longer. I used to play as a sniper but realized fairly quickly that I could do more good (for the team) as an engineer repairing and using rockets on tanks, choppers and infantry.

SlickDevel: I agree with you on the auto kick for base raping. I would love to hear your honest thoughts on the original topic though.

Jtipton: I understand the server is number 1 or 2 for a long time but I also understand that the number of active servers is going down. I feel like some of the "bad apples" are being pushed into the Ego server as others close down or change.

Maybe 2 per side is too low. Maybe 3 would be better but I do think it should mimic an actual percentage of the makeup of true armed forces. You do not see half of the Army, Marines, Navy made up of snipers. Honestly it becomes depressing to think you are fighting to win a flag for your team then look at the squad screen and see half your team is snipers that are camped out trying to increase their K/D ratio. All I am suggesting is trying it for maybe a month. If you see numbers decline then remove it.

Less than 2% of my time has been spent playing Recon. I wear the Infantry uniform and carry tons of ammo as I'm a terrible shot. I like to mix it up and die but I really do a lot of sniping using a scope on my gun. Putting myself out front, spotting approaching vehicles for Engineers, tanks and vads and trying to take out approaching infantry is my mission.

When I find myself in a squad of Recon, I get out.
When I've spawned on a Recon I'll drop ammo if he's not camping away from the action.

Love dropping ammo to Engineers!

My biggest wish and a very popular one I think would be to have a tool to see/know aimbot users.

I do not think there should be a rule limiting Recon.

I can relate to Justi's frustrations. I believe the issue arises when the game isn't played to meet the objectives...taking flags. the best team play together to meet that objective. A winning team will likely have a majority of players trying to take flags, with a small percentage acting as "support" to the flag takers. The frustrating thing for Justi and myself is when the percentage of supporters become more than a winning team can handle. A good, winning team will have the same objective. A winning team will succeed by taking flags. When an imbalance of supporters to attackers occurs the objective changes and i'ts no longer about taking flags and meeting the game's objective. It's pointless to attempt to meet the game's objectives with an army (can't say team because a team by definition has the same objectives) with high support role vs attackers.

justi's argument could also be made with the tank campers that sit on the hill and lob tank rounds without attacking. tank campers are actually more detrimental because they are not only wasting attack slots but they waste a piece of heavy metal. granted there are a handful of tank campers that can offer great support without using the tank to attack (just as there are snipers that can truly offer great attack support.

My thought is the main issue is the disparity between skilled players and newcomers. the newcomers find a good deal on a great game and give it a go. it doesn't take long for them to realize there are many skilled players, and once they die many times they resort to sniping to keep from dyeing. Many of the skilled players move on to new games so the majority assume a "support' role.

I think on the surface limiting each side to a set number of snipers seems like a great idea, however it's not going to force people into taking an attack role. My fear would be those folks that can't get into a sniper class would then just become tank campers. Or any other class, and still sit on the hill not attempting to meet the game's objectives.

My frustrations come when the 'team' I am on have a different objective than I (taking, holding flags and winning the game). As was mentioned in an earlier post too many players have the objective of a great KDR than than game's intended objective....taking flags.

I could see limiting to 2 snipers per squad but not per side. I use snipers to spawn in closer to points of interest. And usually throw them ammo as I come iin....but if every person I can spawn on is recon I stop dropping ammo as punishment. :p. It would be so nice if when spawning on someone that we be respectful enough to not immediatly blow their cover imho.

Justified,

Jtipton was brusque, but not off target (so to speak).

eGO's Heavy Metal server has been a leading draw in the game for more than five years. There has been talk of limiting the recon kit availability as long as I remember, and it pretty much always comes down to "Why would we make it like a server that doesn't draw as well?"

I realize there are times that many people come to a Conquest server and end up playing Deathmatch. It's a pet peeve of mine as well. But that doesn't require changing the rules. Log out and come back for the next game; camp until the tickets run out and hope for a better scramble; yell and try to motivate them to play Conquest; etc., etc.

Most of the problem with lots of snipers is that they forget to recon as well. Get on their squads and teach them. Many people believe that they need to be recon, and need to have the spotting option. They need to be educated.

Good luck,

Papa

I would not like limiting any roles of any of the classes.
I like my options open when I enter a game.

As soon as you limit it to 2, 4, 6 snipers per side, then the really junky snipers are going to fill those slots and camp for the entire game so they do not die and lose the slot. Then once this starts happening the sniper class is useless and you can just get rid of it.
On another server that does limit snipers I would keep getting killed long distance by a few snipers. I could never get close enough to kill them. All my side slots were taken, and these guys were not worried about killing the far off death machines. But if I could have just spawned as a sniper then the shooting war is on.
And I would have leveled the game out.

It is frustrating, but it is the game. Just like when "someone we all know" camps the UAV hill with the tank and basically wins the game for the US.
Or when a really good heli pilot destroys everyone continually the entire game. It sux, and I hate it. But that is what makes this game so good. There are soooo many options, the play is never linear.
If I do not like a sniper on the other side then I gear up and hunt him down. Same with the pilot, I get good with the AT4 and shoot him down. Same with the camping UAV hill tank. I devise some sort of attack and take him out (after I get killed several dozen time trying).
I like the play as it stands.

Could we use better admin controls with auto kick features? Yes. But that is a totally different topic than play. I am all for an auto kick feature for base killing and entering the uncaps.
And anything that stops Papa from killing me.

LOL been down this road many times over the years. I despise recon. As soon as they start filling up the squads, the round is over for that team. That being said- as previously mentioned...we don't decide who can play as what. eGO's Heavy Metal server has always been ranked at the top for as long as I've been a member (2011). Whatever they're doing is working so it is what it is.

Bad company 2 and most of the Battlefields really feel fine when it comes to Kit balance and Team Diversity so I think that a Kit limit on any eGO BF server would be doing the game a disservice. There are ways to counter snipers, You can avoid there LoS, or you can simply counter snipe them. Just because people are good at killing those who don't know how to avoid dying does not mean they deserve to be limited for it.

BF is a franchise of Skill, Teamwork and class based play, and it will always be that way.

PS: If you hate snipers i suggest you don't try BF1 MingLee
