ATTN: =(eGO)= Members - LAN Event Interest

Hello All,

I am in the process of attempting to lead a ongoing project with expanding Edge Gamers reputation and to help bring EGO members closer to knowing one another.

While more information is yet to come this post is here to help gain an understanding on how a large portion of the community feels about potentially attending an =(eGO)= Sponsored/Ran Event. It would be of great help if everyone would participate in providing some minor details

1. In general would you be interested in participating in an LAN Event ran by our very own member?
2. If interested what would be your closest Major city where you would like to see an event located?
3. Would you be interested in helping to coordinate and help administer an event?
4. Do you think LAN parties are still relevant considering the way games are played nowadays?
5. If a cost was required in order to make the event happen..What would be the max your willing to pay for a ticket?

Before you answer the above questions please keep in mind the following:

• The anticipation for large events is way down the road at this moment. If any events do occur they are likely to be 4-10 man LAN's that could be potentially hosted at public locations or possibly a fellow community member's house.
• With the above point mentioned please keep in mind that there are no specific details for a cost of an event, locations of an event, tournaments/events during the event, prizes, sponsorships, etc.
• The primary point of this post is to understand the likely potential for the occurrence of a LAN Event. More information will come in a few weeks pending the results of this poll.

People still do Lan partys mostly for fighting games, but they aren't as common as they were back in the day. I'd be interested if this goes any further, the closest major city to me would probably be Cincinnati.

I attend LANs a couple times a year in Boise. Its hard to travel for on these days due to family though.

Checkpoint 1 results have been pulled. Fairly disappointed that there weren't any responses besides 2 individuals. I honestly expected considerably more given the size and activeness of the community. Even if you have little interest initially it would help to know where the best chances of holding a LAN might be more suitable for maximum attendance. I appreciate those who participated so far.

This is an ongoing poll. I'm hoping to hear more responses this month. There will be two more checkpoints for November. If no more than 7 additional responses are given by the end of this month the poll will be closed.

Please Remember - This is simply a poll for checking the viability of holding official EDGE GAMERS sponsored LAN parties. Even if your interest is low please help us by providing us with your closest metropolitan area that you would likely be interested in attending a potential event.

There will probably be very little interest, simply because the PC LAN market has died down quite significantly. Most people that have been to the LAN's of yesteryear now face unavailability due to job, families, and lacking monetary resources, to name a few. Not to mention that most (not all, but a majority of) popular games now-a-days don't really offer a LAN option. Sure, two of them come to mind, MML and QC, still hold popular LAN events, but it's the fringe benefits that attract the crowds; sponsors, guest appearances, and swag. These, combined with being contained within a nested, confortable environment, i.e "our PC room" and a quick, fastlike WAN connection have eliminated the need to pack our PC's up in the car for a road trip.

I'd like to see a return of the BYOC LAN parties, even if its a once-every-two/few-years thing, but it's extremely difficult to get a good headcount even within eGO. You'd have to plan for something more than the basement LAN's of last decade for it to be worth anyone's while. I'm already in a metro area within MI, and obviously wouldn't mind it being held here in GR, however, wouldn't also mind traveling within feasible driving distance to Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Detroit, or other major areas.

If something were to transpire, I can help administer. I've got switches for days.
