Alienware is Overpriced!!!! Or is it.....

But I just bought one.

I got an Alienware 17r3 for $1,000 shipped to my door via UPS air. Exchange had a massive price cut on their 3rd gens to make room for the newer stuff!

6th Gen i7
16GB DDR4 2400 memory
GTX 970m*
Standard 1920x1080 display
1TB Mechanical drive (I added a 250GB M2)

...And all the usual bits and pieces that you see on gaming laptops.

So what do you think? Is $1,000 for a brand new 17r3 a good deal?

*With it I snagged the external GPU housing from Amazon for $140, and threw a 1080Ti in it for giggles.

I purchased a 2017 Alienware 17 R4, UHD display and my specs are:


17.3 inch, 2560 x 1440 px resolution, TN, 120Hz, matte, non-touch
i7-7820HK CPU, quad-core 2.9 GHz, 3.9Ghz turbo
GTX 1080
32 GB RAM
256GB SSD + 1TB HDD

I paid about $4,200 CAD. Is it worth it? I absolutely think so. I have had zero complaints with Alienware so far, and I use my rig quite often. The build quality is phenomenal and everything feels like it was made properly and with care. I have fun simply turning it on and logging on because of how fast and responsive the laptop feels.

Is it clunky? It can be at times.

Is it heavy? Absolutely!

But having a powerhouse on the go, despite the crazy price was a major selling point for me since I have a very on-the-go lifestyle.

In terms of the price you got that R3, that is a total steal when discussing Alienware laptops, since they are so damn pricey.

I had an MSI GT80 Titan with SLI desktop GTX 980s in it lol. 18.4 inch screen, full mechanical keyboard... I know exactly what you mean by clunky lol.

You are paying for just the name, overpriced paperweights that overheat. Their Tech isn't that great as well. You can get way better laptops/desktops or hell even build one for cheaper with equal or better specs.
