Alrighty, It has been half a year since this question was brought up my Matz in his post regarding his map PrisonM.

I got a few things from people who attended that latest fireside chat, but in case you did not attend I want to know. What do you enjoy in a jail map? Please be as specific as possible. If you have a favorite map that is in or out of rotation, I want to know why it is your favorite. This can be from a T or a CT perspective. Thanks!

As a CT I hate when cells have like 4 vents and 3 decent pistols.
Anything with less than that is okay with me.

knightfight = vents are still insane. can a map just have tiny vents and like 2 guns? I mean I don?t really care anymore but lots of cts hate it when t?s rebel before the cells even open

I like when a map gives me a meaningful descion when rebelling. Like umbrella where in vents you can go armory which you can be rewarding but the CTs know you're inside the armory and there is no way out except cell block. Alternatively you can go to pool or race to gather a gun and setup an ambush. However there are some maps that give you choices but the choices have little risk or reward behind them\one of the choices is obviously the best choice such as syntax not going for the m4 in vents is just plain stupid. Maybe if you had a choice to drop into pool and be free through the map or drop to grab the m4 and have 1 or 2 exits. I believe that you should be rewarded for taking a risk and a map maker should enable multiple styles of play while not making one a clear cut right way to rebel.

On maps with ez vents, cts just hear that it opened and go camp the exits. A lot harder to do that when the vents span the whole map and have 3 or more different exits.

Its all a balancing act, nobody wants to be unable to rebel every round because they have no options, and cts don't want to get steamrolled every round. Unfortunately, prisoners make up the majority of a server and 70% of steamrolling comes from bad guards.

This is similar to what the old syntax did. It had a forced drop down to get to a galil with the only escape after being a teleporter to pool. Now there were only ever 2 results: the T camped inside and domed cts through a forced crouch, or he went through the teleporter and got mowed down by a bunch of cts sitting in sight of pool. Similar to the armory vent on umbrella (which any ct worth his salt will dome you through the glass room you drop down into), you either camp or exit into the line of fire. I decided that limiting a ts options in such a way served no purpose except to promote stale gameplay and changed the vent system when I rebuilt the map. The risk is an illusion. As a T, you can camp all you want. There is no risk into being given every gun the guards have with unlimited ammo and just popping dudes as they come in the one entrance

I'd say my favorite aspect of a map would be the games that can be played on it. I find it entertaining when there are more challenging games on a Jail map because they make me think. For example, the newly re-introduced molyneaux (GO PLAY IT, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE) has a Maze that is not just a simple one where you take a few turns and you are out. It makes your brain work. Also any sort of puzzles and intricate places to rebel are fun as well. The vent system in I believe it is knightfight is quite cool because it immerses you into the map. Since it gives you multiple exits and enough space to work with away form the guards

I enjoy the games the most on a jail map. My favorite map is Molyneaux and it has a lot of fun games on it. This map includes the usual games that you play on other jail maps such as climb, race, soccer, gym climb, and a huge maze which is challenging but fun. But it also includes some unique games that other maps do not have, such as pitdrop, greed, and bobbin for bombs. This is also my favorite map to play T on. I know where all the guns and secrets are. This map has just recently been added to the rotation, so if you haven’t played this map yet I suggest giving it a try!

A logo with an anime girl & the map maker's name put on various parts of the map.

Lots of ways to escape, lots of CT areas, smart CTs, not just a map filled with 100 games, vents, tunnels, smart CTs, no M4/AK/Awps for Ts in vents/tunnels (make them work for the kills with crappy pistols, SMGs, shottys), random narnia vents, and also, but not only or lastly, smart CTs.

Good jail map would include some games like race, climb, Simon and others of course but as well as make it somewhat more ct sided. It?s a 1:2 ratio so cts should have a slight advantage such as having AWPs in the armory as well as accessible nades in ct areas. For the prisoners, of course a vent system that leads to armory or other gun locations but not too expansive so that everyone can leave in different directions. Prisoners should be able to escape from a game into vents such as Simon on umbrella into vents. The main thing I would like to see is a map that is all out interactive. Knightfight is a great example of an excellent map with the exception of that huge vent system of course. There?s pistols everywhere so the vents should lead to 3 directions not 5 or 6. It?s too wide and expansive. But other than that, knightfight is what other maps need to be modeled after in my opinion.

If it doesn't have Simon I'm not playing it cus giving mayhem iso in Simon is great.

Not giving armor or helmet to the Ts. They are 2:1, they dont need kevlar.
