Hello I'm Buck Private

I'm a eG from the DOD side of the eGO family.

Just wondering if my computer can handle TF2.

1.6 Duo Core, 1 GB RAM, ATI x1400 256 MB or it is a 512 MB (I don't know which one)

It would be pretty laggy, and you would get about 20fps max, but you could run it.

yup - what Thatguy said. If you turn all of the video options down, and play it at a lower resolution, you'll probably be ok.

Minimum Requirements:

CPU: 1.2 GHz Processor
RAM: 256 MB
Graphics Card: DirectX 7 capable graphics card
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98
Mouse
Keyboard
Internet Connection
CD or DVD rom drive

Recommended Requirements:

CPU: 2.4 GHz Processor
RAM: 512 MB
Graphics Card: DirectX 9 capable graphics card 256 MB
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98
Mouse
Keyboard
Internet Connection
CD or DVD rom drive

Ideal Requirements:

CPU: 3.4 GHz Processor
RAM: 1024 MB
Graphics Card: Radeon X800 or Geforce 6800
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98
Mouse
Keyboard
Internet Connection
CD or DVD rom drive

Bottom line:

The only requirement your system doesn't meet for the IDEAL is the processor speed. Even though yours is clocked at 1.6Ghz, since it's a dual core, it will actually perform like a 2.5Ghz Pentium 4 (or better). Your system will run TF2 just fine.

bah - game requirement lists are all lies!! :-P that's like saying you're ok running XP with 256megs of RAM...or Vista with 512. Sure..it'll run, but you'll want to beat yourself in the head with a blunt object while it's trying to accomplish any significant task - like say...booting up ;-)

This is true, to a point. The difference is that his system doesn't just meet the minimum requirements, it almost meets the high performance requirements. The system I was using when I first started playing TF2 was almost the same as his and it ran the game just fine. I think he'll be fine.

Hi didnt think I would get such a speedy response.

I am running the DOD perfectly a ping at 60ish no lag at all

is the level of graphics higher on TF2?

Not really, although in some maps there are moving backgrounds that can slow ya down a bit. Other than that, the maps are actually a lot smaller than some of the DoD maps I've played.

I'd say because of the lighting, post process effects (reflections/glow/bloom) and massive amounts of particles and smoothly-rendered models with high resolution textures... TF2 is definitely more graphically intensive than DoD from what I've seen of it.

Still, if you play at something like 1024x768 (I do) you should get decent FPS. What other games do you play, and what kind of FPS do you get on them (and at what settings/resolution)?
