Now really i don't know how to explain this but. I went on Microsoft's site to update my pc and i downloaded the updates i needed. Well when your done updating you half to restart and i did. When i did restart i did have sound but when my pc came back up there was no sound at all. I use headphones and there is nothing wrong with the cord or the connection. Really there is no sound coming out of my pc at all. Even with speakers... Can somebody please help me fix this.

My theory is that when updating Windows, automatic update found a 'new' driver for your audio device, updated it, and it was corrupt. It's a low chance of happening but if it did, here's how to check:

• Right click on My Computer and click on properties.

• Click on the Hardware tab and go to Device Manager.

• Find your audio device on the list and right click it, go to properties.

• Click on the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver.

I got to the drivers tab and there was no roll back driver. I just see troubleshot and properties and that is just about it.

Go to the website for your sound card's vendor and download the drivers. Reinstall them, and see if that helps. It also wouldn't hurt to double-check your mixer settings to make sure nothing is muted and also make sure you have the most current version of DirectX.

Have the most current verision of DX and how do i go check the mixer and find what sound card i have?

if you are running XP, click on the start menu, then control panel, then "sounds and audio devices." That will bring up a window, and on that fist page it should have a main volume control, with and "advanced" button on it. Click the advanced button, and it will bring up the mixer, where you can make sure everything is up and unmuted.

You can also check your audio hardware from there. Click the "hardware" tab, and make sure that your sound playback option is set to the right device.

If that is all correct, then right click on my computer, choose properties, click the hardware tab, then choose device manager. scroll down to your "sound, video and game controllers," and you should be able to find your sound card there. Head off to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. If you can't get a device name from there, then you may have to open up your machine and get the sound card name from the physical card.

Well when i did the second part of yours it opened up and i see the following: Audio codecs, creative game pot, creative SB audigy, Emuzed EvcapMaui Device, Legacy Audio drivers, legacy viceo capture devices. Media control devices, and video codecs.

Which one of those would be my sound card?

Also i am not a computer genies so i don't know what i am doing. Sorry

Looks like you have a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy. You should be able to go here:

choose your OS and download the latest drivers.

It is possible that you have a different audigy card, but those are the basic audigy drivers. Before you install, you should go into add/remove programs and uninstall any software from Creative Labs or SoundBlaster. Then go into your device manager from before, right-click on the sound blaster audigy (and probably the other components in there as well) and choose uninstall. Then install the latest drivers. That might take care of things...
