Was playing yesterday as engineer, and a thought came to mine.

WHY am I playing engi, since I dont like him, too easy and not much action...
The answer came quick, I cared about my "points" and "rank" more than actually playing the game.
SO
Basically said "scr** the points", I started out playing spy, since for me he was fun and challenging and now I mostly play as sniper/engi/medic-the "safest" classes. So will be back to play as Spy/Sniper and dont care about my rank, say bye bye to my 11k points (will take a screenshot, to remember the memories later on)

Wll see you guys in game, just wanted to point out this issue
ARE YOU PLAYING FOR POINTS/RANK or FOR FUN?

^^ russian friend

I always play for fun! But I will admit, if the situation calls for a pyro when I'm a medic I'm not affriad to switch it up ;) All in good fun my friends!

Fun. Always for fun. That said, I do have to admit getting a little enjoyment out of my ranks and points. I know I was fairly happy when I managed to go up ~100 places in position yesterday, after a particularly good play session. (Which means my next couple of play sessions I'll probably drop about 200 places. :) )

I agree, I hate the points. Sometimes I feel like I have to play harder than I would normally to keep my rank up, and then I get frustrated and have less fun. I try to ignore them, for the most part.

I have a confession to make. Before coming on eGO servers, I tought I was the best player ever. I joined games randomly choosing 24/7 servers of the map I felt like playing. One day, I asked myself: it is sad that there are no system of rankings to help know who's the best. Then I found a server that had points. I was 300 or something in the ranks and told myself: I'll keep that server in my favorites and will take the first place. After I added all the eGO servers to my favourite list, I found out about you guys and knew I found my right place to be.

So all in all, I DO play on the servers to be the best, I'll admit it. But now, I'd keep playing with the awesome friends and friendly people I met here, even if the stats would stop. So I play for the points, and I have a great fun doing it. There is no obligation for points and fun to be separate. Goretex and me like to talk about how much each kill we make at each other gives us points, and we try to gain the most of them. That's a fun way to play, I think.

TF2 is the first online game I'm good at, and the only proof I have of it at the end of the day is my signature in the forums. I find it really great to go up, and if it goes down, I know that tomorow I'll try to play better to get them back. That's a wonderful feeling to play for fun with fun people, to be good at it and to have proofs of it.

As i see Firethem actually read up old posts of mine and added them in his sig hehe:)

I played for points but it made me angry when i lost ranks so i stopped thinking about it a while ago and i'm doing better for it. I know that i wont be judged on my performances and it is a good thing because there is alot of better players than me in those servers of ego.

You know, to be greeted by half the team when you log is a good great feeling, and the people recognize you for who you are, not about how good you are. I realised that now and stats for me are a thing of the past. They are only good when you need to do some digging on player's background :)

It would be a lot better if the points weren't scrolled across the screen every 2 seconds.... lol I wish that was turned off.

I was pretty determined go get high ranked when I first started on Convoy. But I found myself just playing one class, and freaking out about everything. The moment I started not caring, was the moment when I started having the most fun in TF2. :)

And when you think about it, at least to me anyway, I don't care if you're ranked #2 or #63,971. I care about how the person plays, not about what their rank is. Except in the military... respect your officers. :P

[/quote1210304628]To my knowledge, it only does that in some of the servers, not all.

Im kinda between the line. i like my points, but i can't not have fun. Having a blast makes the game have fun, but If your somewhat attached to points/rank It'll give you a drive to work on your skill. Either way, Points/Rank is a double edged sword.

I care too much about my rank. I really wish I didn't, but it's just... me. Can't help it. The thing is, I peaked in the low 6000s, so my rank sucks, but because you lose points for dying I can't seem to gain any more points now, I'm just kind at equilibrium. I feel like a crappy player now. I'm doing my best not to care, though. I've gotten it down to maintaining my kill/death ratio at or above 1.0. Of course I played medic for a while and it dropped .04 or so very quickly, haha.

im happy that u stop caring about rank. it helps you ENJOY the game. plus, the rankings aren't even completely fair. to be first all u have to do is "farm" points by building crap with engie over and over and over. the point system is messed up in my opinion.

yes, the real problem there is with the points is that they don't see how useful a player is. If you're a medic and heal everyone and get no assists but get killed every 3 minutes, sure the points are going down, but you are useful. Same thing for the engi that watches the last point and only a scout shows up every 30 minutes, he doesn't get points.

Sadly I don't think it is possible to put numbers on a useful person, and that's the only problem I have with them points

The point system is messed up, but of course, we all knew that. I used to be #2 for a while until I decided to let the game be fun instead and play as any class, but I went back to engineer (my main class). I'm a good engineer, and although we all know it's the easiest class to buff up points on, I'm quite the toughie. I don't quit until my sentry goes down, and I can play quite aggressive as an engi, because I find it boring standing next to the sentry the entire time.

I play for fun, but the points are a nice bonus. !lol:)

I only play for fun, thats the only reason I have ever played. A few weeks ago I was on warpath as a pyro and a medic ubered me near beginning of round so I jumped on the middile cp and did the pyro taunt 3 times, it was hilarious and even the medic was laughing, sure we both got blown up but who cares? Im just gunna respawn. I think my stats show that even if I tried to play for stats I wouldnt succed. Sure as an engineer I do my best to help me team win, but it isn't about winning or points and when I see someone worrying about points I can tell they arent having much fun at all...
