GPU Upgrade?

Hey all i was wondering what a good gpu upgrade would be from my current ATi Radeon X800 GTO. I really dont mind between ATi or Nvidia, just so theres no fanboy arguments. Price range would be about £200 or less or $400 or less for any americans out there. - PCI Express req.

I went from an ATi X800 GTO to an ATi HD 3850 for around $200 (Probably alot cheaper now), and it runs TF2 maxed at 1280x1024 nicely. As for something in your price range, what Lafi suggested is a great card for the price. Just make sure your PSU has enough power to run it!
 
@ Lafinass - Thanks, that card looks very nice. One thing though... how can i see if i have PCI-e 2.0 and if i dont have it will that mean it is not worth buying the 9800
 
A PCI-e will run on a PCI-e 2.0, but I don't know about the reverse.

The best way to tell would be to get CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) and look at the 'Mainboard' tab, under 'Graphic Interface' is a 'Version' which will say either AGP, PCI-Express, or PCI-Express 2.0. If you still aren't sure, you can look at the Model number under 'Motherboard' and then google that board for specs.

If you only have AGP? Err... time to do a bigger upgrade than just your video card. :P
 
Ok so i reckon ill go for one or the other... but could someone tell me what sort of PSU i would need to run it well? If possible could someone reccomend one. Thanks
 
Something Enermax. Depending on what else is in your system, 600-750W if not more. Make sure it has the right types of plugs if it's not a modular PSU. I don't know about the ATIs that have been posted, but the GeForce cards I've put up require specific power cables.
 
Alright ive had a check and PCI-e 2.0 cards will run fine in a PCI-e 1.0 slot. Just without all the bells and whistles of 2.0 (whatever they are). Thats meant to apply to all of the x16 slots anyway which is for video cards anyway so it should be fine yes?
 
Probably just throttles back the bandwidth. It should work, but if not, make sure you buy from a place with good RMA policies.


Edit: And you get what you pay for.
 
i dno if u can reccomend me any good pc part shops in the uk... cos nothing beats newegg really but they dont ship abroad.
 
Alright im going off for the night - anyone else feel free to reccomend other video cards or power supplies - i would prefer uk links suc as amazon, yoyotech, ocuk, etc but any is fine... thanks - mainly to lafinass lol
 
well i have a radeon 3870 and it runs great and you can get them for around $170-$200 idk what that is in euro. Id reccomend buying a 880gts with the g92 core because they are beasts and are very comparable to the 8800gtx.
if you want the gtx they are dropping in price now too cuz of the new 9-series gforce cards just make sure your psu can handle it.
