Linux Installation [Mod, Please Move to Tech Help]

I finally was able to install Xubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 on my old Dell laptop (please pardon the unseemly four-letter word) and it works great, but the resolution sucks. Its at 800x600 and and I can't change it any higher. On Windows I was able to adjust the screen resolution up to 1024x768. The laptop is a Dell C600 PIII 866Mhz, 256mb Ram, 10gb hd, ATi Rage 128 Pro 8MB on a 2x AGP bus.

Any help would be much appreciated...THANKS!

Can you post the output when you run these commands?

$ sudo lspci | grep VGA
$ grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

With ubuntu you should be able to change resolution when you install nVidia drivers, if you use the automated update tool you can look for the drivers but they will warn you that they do not support it officially. If you still can't change the resolution after that try a different desktop environment or updating your current one.
