Don't worry about the forums... I've been here 10 years and I still have no idea wtf I'm doing. Hasn't stopped me from enjoying the group.
You'll get the swing of it. The main thing to no is that most of the divided by game type. Other than that you can just browse through the subsections, or use the search features. Joining the steam group can help too (for announcements and such)
