Has any of you listened to the new Nine Inch Nails release?

For those that are interested you can grab it for free on the NiN site. Reznor is whooping the recording industry by releasing his music online and with different pricing plans, much like Radiohead did, skipping the recording companies. He is also releasing it DRM free and in FLAC and other lossless.

I certainly appreciate the notion, but compared to previous albums it's very unpolished. The lyrics aren't quite well-thought-out, let alone melodical, and the music is decidedly subpar (at least by NIN standards).

All in all -- it sounds like a NIN 'pop' album... Ironic, considering it's contract-free. I might be a little harsh though... I was just expecting a bit more from Trent.

I agree that it is not on par with Fragile and some things before that, but it helps if you look at it as just a stop on the road. He is going somewhere, we get to watch and listen. The next thing might be amazing or not so much. Lets hope the success he had releasing these albums by himself will put him in a good spot to give us some good music. I like that he is trying different things.

not a huge fan, but I have been keping up with and love what they've been doing as far as releasing their music online. True revolutionaries.
