How do we feel about this behavior?

I have a prologue, and then 3 questions.

Say "player1" joins and happens to randomly be assigned to a team (let's call it RED) that has walked through the other team (BLUE, obviously) maybe 2 or 3 times in a row.

[Side note, player1 might have been able to join directly to the dominating team because a certain unnamed person might have magnanimously switched teams from RED to BLUE to help out the losing team a bit right before player1 connected]

Now, say player1 stays on team RED through maybe one additional dominating victory, then is AUTOSWITCHED to BLUE.

And what if player1 then proceeded to join spectator before playing a single minute as BLUE, to wait for another player to connect and hoin the now minority BLUE team, then to rejoin team RED.

Say all of this played out very obviously within a span (from the point of the AUTOSWITCH to the rejoining of RED) in about 45 seconds.

As an =(e)=, if I saw player1 very obviously demonstrating this behavior, would I be within my rights and responsibilities to either bring this up with admins present or admonish player1 discreetly?

And a second, related question: if player1 was an =(eGO)= admin (TOTALLY hypothetical, mkay), would I, as an =(e)= be expected to say and do nothing in the name of solidarity?

Lastly, If there was a hypothetical =(eGO)=player1 behaving in this manner, should us =(e)=s do as we usually do--take this behavior as a shining example of what we all strive for and could one day become?

In general, I would disapprove of this type of behavior...in some of the more serious cases of this, I think we've kicked people who repeatedly do it out of eGO. One particular case that comes to mind was a member who repeatedly went spec when his team was about to lose (to avoid being killed in the after round period where the winning team can kill people at will). Which causes a player on the winning team to get auto-balanced to the losing one.

In the case of the eGO however, I would make sure of their motive before making any accusations. I've been called into a server by non-admins before because someone was being disruptive. In one case a few weeks ago, the person that I need to deal with happened to be on the team that was completely dominating the other one. I had to wait in spec for a while before a spot opened up, and not soon afterwards, I got autobalanced to the other team. So I had to go spec again and try to get back onto the original team.
 
I actually kick people who do this. I'll normally let the first one slide and give warning to everyone about doing this. If they or anyone else does it, it will result in a kick. I may even ban if they say something disrespectful about the situation.

Were this not a COMPLETELY hypothetical question, I would be inclined to agree with you.
 
I guess for me it all depends.

I would let it slide the first time, like someone else mentioned. But if it keeps going on, that's silly and just annoying.

This clan is based on having fun not on winning so we have in the past curbed people who have purposly jumped teams to avoid losing. Now if you see an =e= switching don't automatically assume they are jumping for points rather they may switch to join a friend. If any player is doing this on a regular basis then we take action however if you see an =eGO= doing it then PM a council/advisor so we can deal with it but don't take it to the public eye. Final answer is once is nothing special but if someone is switching on a regular basis then deal with them.
 
Thanks for the good answers everybody. This is the only gaming community I've ever been a part of where discussions like this can take place without erupting into flames and accusations.

I in general disapprove of this, but in the case of admins doing it, it is often a different story. Many times i switch teams to ensure proper admin coverage ( at least 1 per team), but when there are enough i dont.
 
Im just confused - kick everyone and set the server on fire in the parking lot - problem solved...
 
And as Abu just noted, yes, we admins may switch teams for the sake of admin coverage. When I play in the late night/early morning hours, for instance, I'll sometimes switch teams after every round or two. The main reasons for this are sprays and mic chat. You're obviously not going to hear anything BLU says on mic when you're on RED, and as sprays are most commonly put in or near spawns, you'll probably not see much of them either. There are a significant number of violations that occur through these two mediums, and if I'm the only admin in a server, I like to try to cover both as best I can.

And also, all you =(e)= peoples, don't forget that if you're on a team that doesn't have an admin, but there's an eG or an eGO on the other team, you can always let us know if there's something that needs taking care of. Just press your team chat button (U by default), put an @ first, and then follow it with your text. For instance: @Hey Adilor, player_1 is spamming the mic and being annoying.

It'll disappear after you enter it, but any and all admins on the server will see it...but only those on the server. If you're in Gravelpit and I'm in Dustbowl, I won't see what you're typing. It's a great way to alert us to a problem without making it known that you're doing so. Just make sure it's over team chat, because all chat won't do anything for you.
 
I'd just like to state that until you actually personally address the player who's doing it, all you can do is speculate about his /her reasons of doing it.

I therefore let these thing slides unless it is disturbing the players, then i ask questions. I feel like there is other more important issues than keeping an eye on team switching.

An ego might need to switch for admin reasons at all time.
 
hmm... Do you guys consider it any different if the said player just wants to play with the ppl on a certain team? Personally, though, it's just as fun killing them, hehe.
 
We as a community/clan thing gotta walk the thin line between keepin it real and being a buncha in-game Nazis. I dont have a problem with a guy team jumping once in awhile for whatever reason, but when you start 'sploiting the system to force other people around just so you dont end up on the losing team, I'm gonna come down on you. I understand the frustration sometimes, when you just cant get anything going on one team, so you switch to the other to give your game a shot of adrenaline (its crazy how being on a decent team will get you out of a slump, and stay that way even if you go back to the losing team. Its all mental). Just dont make a career of it, and dont call out your former team while you do it. That I will not except.

I've done it to stay on my losing team, just because of the work I've put into defending or trying to cap. I hate when you're working hard with your team then suddenly the game switches you. very frustrating.

I didn't realize this was an offense.
 
As my better half plays TF2 as well she prefers to be on whatever team I'm on. Otherwise I'll just go spy and stalk her with constant backstabs :p lol
