DS Custom Join Message Issue In CS:GO

So recently I decided to ask for assistance in the DS forum regarding custom join messages in CS:GO, since I'd seen other DSs with custom join messages and mine never took hold on Source Engine games. I'd had it configured in MAUL literally minutes after I subscribed and it worked on Minecraft but never anywhere else. Then after a few days it worked on Minigames finally, but not Surf. So eventually I decided to make the thread in the DS forum.
Eventually when I'd grown tired of not seeing it on the MG server I ended up going into MAUL and saving the changes to my DS settings even though I didn't make any. To me it just seemed like a reasonable troubleshooting step. It then began showing up on MG sometime later on. When I created the thread asking about how to configure it because it still didn't work on Surf several days later, I again went back into MAUL and saved changes to my DS settings without changing anything, just to be sure it wasn't something I did. Shortly after posting it began magically working, and figuring there was nothing to investigate since it wasn't a problem anymore, forgot all about it. It started working on Surf after the next map change. Well just now, when I figured I'd get back into Bhop and joined the server to see that I had no custom join message, I immediately realized what'd been 'fixing' the issue and why everyone I asked, even leadership, had no idea why it wasn't working for me when I told them I already had it configured.
For some reason, it seems, you have to actually join the server you want the custom join message to show up on (it doesn't show up on all of them by default like it's supposed to), configure your DS tag with "/VIP", and THEN go into MAUL and 'save changes' to enable your custom join message on that server. If you apply a custom join message via the DS settings in MAUL before you join a CS:GO server and set a DS tag, it will not show up, even after you set a tag.

Set a custom join message in MAUL via DS settings, then join an eGO CS:GO server. If you set the custom join message before you joined the server with the DS rank and set your DS tag it will not work until you apply it in MAUL again.
Any extra info we may need to know
You have to "save changes" in MAUL after joining a server you haven't played on yet with your DS status and an active tag, or the custom join message will remain inactive on that server until you do.
