Gravelpit Glitch?

I just experienced a odd little bug. It seems you can climb the raised tunnels leading to offences spawn with classes that lack explosives or double jump. I don't know if this is inteneded or not, but it gets to be a pain when you can't leav spawn due to hostile players camping right outside your door.

Is this a legitimate bug/glitch? Because the guys using it said it was a "feature" and continued camping us when we raised our voices. From what they told us and observing they where strafe jumping up the wall and into the tunnels.

Honestly, I play on that server a lot and I can't figure out what you mean..

You know the two tunnels that lead from attackers spawn/staging area to a and b? They had several of their players camping in them preventing us from leaving. They were able to get heavies, medics, engineers and pyros up from the ground level into the tunnels. Normally you need to rocket jump, sticky jump or be a scout to get onto the raised tunnels.

Wow. After your second explanation I see what you're saying. Heavy, medic, dispenser combo off at the end of the tunnel would make those doors impassible. Let alone this combo at each end. No way that's an intentional feature.

Technically it is legal, though. 4 classes natively have the ability to get up there, and through use of teleporters, the other 5 can easily be shipped up. Plus, it's not like it's putting them in a place they can't be shot at. They're still perfectly vulnerable. Spawn camping in itself is also a perfectly legal strategy, as long as it's done with the map objectives in mind. It's by no means unbreakable, though; they are right by your spawn, and BLU has a much shorter timer than RED. Unless I'm misunderstanding the situation completely, it sounds perfectly legal to me.

The very first time I ever joined an ego server it was gravelpit, and I saw an ego doing that glitch in setup. The person never actually went up to the doors, they were just messing around with it.

I remember you go to the tunnel from B to A. Right where you go in from b on the left wall there is a spot you can ram into. You get on it and keep going back and forth and each time you get higher.

engies can dispenser jump up there and build a teleporter. If that's how they were getting up, that's perfectly valid. If they were getting up through means of a glitch, it's a map exploit.

Jumping onto a slanted ledge while walking forward/similar isn't really an exploit, just a method to get higher. I do it all the time on Dustbowl in the corner under the exit of the right tunnel.

And it's completely possible that they got some teleporters up there.

It doesn't seem like an exploit to me either, but I do consider it to be a little unfair on that map. Valve should probably fix that.

Don't have any screenshots unfortantly. Although if I see it again I will be sure to snag a few. They were not using the dispenser/teleporter method, they climbed wall. As we were able to push them off for a few seconds a couple times and not once did we see a teleporter. Until they got smarter and got themselves a engineer. Until he came they were geting up by other means.

It really isn't so bad, but it does take a some time to dislodge them. Teleporters once up negate some of the distance to Blue's spawn and due to the nature of the tunnels they can camp with a higher degree of success. We took A because they lacked sufficiant numbers to prevent it, but they held onto the B tunnel. Eventually when we couldn't remove them from the B tunnel, we went the long way around A-C-B.

The tactic of the spawn camping doesn't bother me so much as how they were able to pull it off. Without a engineer using teleporter/dispenser or a native class that can reach it. Because with that method you have a chance to break/prevent the camping as its building up. But with the slanted ledge thing they can be there right away and not much you can do to stop it. They can run up most of their team without a cooldown on teleportation or explosives.
