Sucking up

It's pretty obvious from giving reps and giving decisions that a lot of users in this community suck up to leadership to get admin or just get on their good side. This is because of how ego member system is designed.

For example:
If a complete ego member suggests an idea most e members either like the idea, (obvious from giving reps sometimes) or compliment the idea. I am not saying that e members are completely disregarded. I am just saying ppl are more honest among each other.

Give your own honest opinion, always sucking up won't get you far.

Sucking up to get Admin doesn't work. EdgeGamers has been around for over 10 years. In that time, leadership has seen EVERYTHING. (And yes, I mean everything.) We know when people are panhandling for a promotions. We know when people are recommended or asking for recommendations. Doing this will not get you anywhere. In fact, it will get you pushed back on promotion.

Play the game.
Have fun.
Be mature.

First, I would like to know why you think this way.

What makes you think that everyone sucks up to get promoted, and that eGO's ranking system is designed for people to 'suck up' to leadership?

That's quite the far reach, and an attack on the people who don't 'suck up' and get promoted because they really deserve it.

Forum rep means nothing and is the equivalent of getting paid in Schrute Bucks, which, by the way, have a terrible conversion rate to Stanley Nickels.

Sometimes people like other people based on their ideas, sometimes people like other people based on their actions, sometimes its both.

Sometimes, you just post on the forums and do nothing else and you can get far.

Sometimes, you can just AFK in a server and get community manager.

There are many things you can assume, but you know the old saying about assuming right?

I agree. I'm not going to lie, I suck the heck* up sometimes and enjoy every minute of it (jokingly/not jokingly). Does it give me a promotion? No. Will it ever? Probably Not. In some people it's wired into their personalities and they can't help themselves. In these current times, people can't be nice without it being called a suck up. Promotions are given to people that we feel that deserve it and that's how's it's been since I've been here. This rep stuff? I could tell everyone to disappove my post but guess what? I'm going to still be the rank I am at the end of the day. Just FYI, we know.

This is my opinion on this.
Yes, "sucking up" to leadership will not get you promoted. (Atleast i don't think so)
Helping people actively,suggesting new helpful ideas etc will most likely help you towards getting promoted
if you're always toxic unless you see an admin on dont expect to be promoted, theres things called chat logs
Making friends with leadership can "help" you get admin faster.
that is only IF you are mature, if you suck up to leadership and they see you're totally immature they most likely wont recommend you for a promotion, or promote you.
if they see you constantly helping people, enforcing rules etc etc then they might throw you a recommendation

So as Aaron Said: Don't ask, play the game, have fun, be mature
And well help people.

On the low key, this does happen but is very easy to handle. If people are just sucking up, and not being mature or playing the server, they will not most likely get a promotion.

On the flip side, you may see a little bit of sucking up, but it can be backed. If you are an upstanding member of the community, and you take pride in everything that you do, but you still suck up a bit, ya those people may see a promotion.

Overall, I've never seen anyone suck up and get promoted without the work to back it up.


Pretty much was oranges said, there is no offical sucking up, it's just being a good person, which may seem a little fake at sometimes, but it's doing the right thing. And doing the right thing will get you promoted

Insider tip from a former TF2 Game Manager / Advisor:
A lot of things that appear to go unnoticed really aren't. Yes, there will be people here that are closer to their managers, but that doesn't automatically mean you get the promotion. We'd look at all our admins back in the day and consider promotions and awards carefully based on how they behaved and interacted with the community, I'm sure this is still the case as I still speak to some of my colleagues. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. I promise and assure you, not much is being missed. It's only more work that takes you away form doing what we all come here to actually do... play video games. Anyways, I hope that helps and I strongly recommend against making post like these if you are looking for a promotion as things like these also get noticed and not for the best.

Yep, as said in the "Start here" Post on "how to get promoted" and showing your maturity

Showing your maturity is extremely easy. You can socialize and participate in the community by:

Getting to know our Members and Leadership
Posting on the forums
Socializing on TeamSpeak and/or Discord
Attending Divisional and/or Global Events
Playing on our servers while upholding the Rules
Posting ban reports on troublesome players
Being active within the Community

I'm going to be completely honest here....
I got my G from just being awesome... And I got my O from being a complete asshole. I basically told off some of the (old school) upper admins.... And they made me an O for it...

NOW: I'm not saying this is how you get admin, or rank... Because... it DEFINITELY won't work for everyone.. But. I was being >ME< and me being me is what got me recognized. Like Summer said.... if sucking up is who you are... well. be you. If you don't like sucking up. DON'T.

Just you do you. And don't worry about acquiring rank. It's more work and responsibility. And YES we DO need people willing to shoulder such things... But don't think of them as prizes... but rather, obligations that you take on when it's your time.

Ya I dont do suck ups, I've had many people ask for recommendations for promotion and out of all of those I may be sent 1 or 2 for a person who I actually thought they deserved the G. There are many e's that play and mess up alot or have pretty strong anger issues. If you want the G or O just play the game and dont cause trouble. You will most likely be noticed by the O's and recommendations will be sent. Also don't expect to get promoted in a day, that's unrealistic.
