Better Build for $1k?

Hey all,

I'm finally getting back to PC gaming (it's been..... 6 months?) and am super excited to do so. I will be buying back my old tower from my best friend who is unfortunately getting out of PC gaming and into buying car parts.

Anyway, we agreed on a price of $1,000. Specs are as follows:

- i7 6800k
- EVGA GTX 1070 (not sure which version, only has two fans. He bought this when I parted out my 1080Ti)
- 16GB Ripjaws DDR4 2400 memory
- ASRock X99 Taichi Mobo
- WD Blue 2TB HDD
- I believe there's a Sandisk 120GB SSD in there, but I have a BNIB Sandisk 250GB SATA SSD I got for free. Probably will toss those aside and finally go M.2 anyway.
- NZXT H440
- Corsair CX850M PSU
- Corsair H100i CPU Cooler

All of this I'd say is a good deal for $1k, though with a lot of newer things out there I'm curious if a better, newer build can be had around the same price, even if it involves switching over to AMD.

Its a great deal, but really the i7 is an overkill if you could shave a few bucks with an i5 I would go for it

I paid ~$200 shipped for the i7 in spring of 2017; my uncle used to work for Intel so he had an amazing employee discount. I could definitely shave $100 though if I were to buy an i5 through his friends...
 
Imo if you're playing some really graphic intensive games I'd just wait for the 2000 nvidia series, yeah they are expensive but they'll start selling em in a couple of days (If they haven't already) or clutch one on black Friday/Cyber Monday, even if you think they're expensive the prices of the 1000 series is gonna drop significantly. Are you building you PC? Cuz if so just buy the graphics card considering you've already gotten the i7 shipped. Depends on you there's a lotta options out there ;)

I'm considering selling the 1070 for a 2080, or a 2080Ti. Problem is my end goal is being able to game on a 4k 144hz monitor, but I see no reason to drop $2,000 on a monitor right now. Currently I'll be on a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor with g-sync, which I think a 2080 will handle just fine.
 
Seems like a nice set-up should be enough for 120hz 720p-1080p
