Hello lads, trash here.

Over the course of TF2's long existence, I've done lots of things, played many maps and game modes, and met many, many different people. Some of my greatest memories stem from this game and the people around it. However, I realize that in actuality, not many people play TF2 nowadays. For various reasons. Most of my friends whom I've asked: 'Hey have you heard of this game?' usually respond with something along the lines of: 'Oh yeah, that hat simulator" or "I've heard of it but never played it." What are your opinions on the game? From someone who has no idea what TF2 is, to people like me who have thousands of hours in the game, what are your opinions of the game currently? I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Cheers,

The game with really good comebacks

I still enjoy it from time to time. Usually have a specific gamemode in mind I want to play with my friends.

T is tanks who likes to get uber charged
F is for the loads of fun you can haveeeee
2 is the amount of kills that i can get and i love this game to be.

It’s a game that can take time to learn or it is the game that is easy to play for all people of all ages. The game has lasted through time (kinda) and the people who played it, don’t forget it.

When I first played it in 2009 I couldn't stand it, I think it was just way too much to learn. Shelved it for a few years.

Now I have 6700 hours in it, but hoo boy does it have a steep learning curve.

I like all the different communities that surround TF2. Everything from the SFM makers, traders, jumpers, surfers, casuals, comp players, and so on.

I have fun playing the game, it's just some pockets of the community really ruin it for me. I used to play a lot of hightower's and 2fort and I found that most of my time on our servers was spent admining. I've played tf2 and csgo pG/eGO servers for similar amounts of time, about 20 days in each game, and I easily have 3 times more tf2 bans(well over 100). I still get on every once in a while and have fun and don't get me wrong, I've met a bunch of awesome people but it's really frustrating dealing with constant toxicity without getting a little toxic yourself. Also, valve wrote this game off years ago and doesn't give a shit about it's player base. There's that part of it too :(

basically, id's quake 1 movement engine plus valve's physics engine make the game for me. i would not still be playing this game constantly after 10 years if not for the following mechanics:

- air/circle strafing and acceleration

- blast jumping and knockback based on damage dealt/taken (even though it's not entirely concrete at times with things like gunboats sending you just as far for less hp)

- diverse weapon functions and mechanics basically filling every role anyone would ever want in an fps game

- the opportunity for extremely high skill ceiling 1v1 combat that to my knowledge can't be found in any other game of this kind

- the modern-day opportunity to (somewhat) consistently hit above 100fps granting much smoother gameplay than many modern games, especially on older hardware (even if performance can be iffy in other ways, it is still a net positive in my eyes). of course, this can sometimes only be achieved through graphics configs but they really don't need to be as extensive as people like to think

then of course, the game is entertaining to look at and play. the voicemenu quips and character interactions, the generally silly atmosphere has never failed to make me laugh at regular intervals. the game amazingly can also at times actually be pretty damn tense and cool as hell

the game is beautiful and graphically holds up incredibly well, especially considering its performance on various pc's. on stock gfx settings it's a real joy to look at and wander through and going stock tends to really mesmerize me coming from half-garbage (yet still pretty) dx8 graphics. it's almost just as fun that way just because of the way it looks and feels, even if performance is iffy for my pc

now, if we're going to talk about the community, i'd like to mention a couple things:

- the internet is both an amazing and horrible place. it's full of both respectable, fun-loving and intelligent people & horrible loud, annoying vicious idiots

i think tf2 encompasses both sides pretty equally. the annoying ones are obviously more noticeable, but such is life. i've made many great friends through tf2 and have met many really screwed up individuals, much like anywhere else online

as a whole, this game is my favorite of all time, and that will most likely never change. it's far from perfect but in some ways so close to it that i can't demonstrate through writing. the experiences i've had through this game can never be close to replicated

*very large inhale*
