[poll] How about an eGo convention in Las Vegas?

Guys, what would think of organizing a big LAN party/convention in Vegas? Getting sponsors, and have cool prizes (for WTB for example), and we all play over Gbit and same equipment connections so no dis/advantage from ping.

Of course this takes quiet some organizing to pull this off, but wanted to see first if there is any interest for such an event. This question is also specifically aimed @ the eGo counsel to see if they are interested in this (don’t want to overstep my boundaries either).

This is just an idea throwing out there.
 
It's a fine idea, but there's no way it'll fly. Yes, eGO is a huge clan, but there's no way that we're going to be able to get sponsors to foot the bill of anyplace in Vegas that's large enough to hold this venue. Not to mention, we've got players from all across the world that it would cost them thousands of dollars just to get them and their stuff here.

I can't even begin to imagine the logistical nightmare that this would be.
 
Well, it actually CAN be done, but it has to have people that REALLY want to make it happen. I and some friends of mine do something like this every year. Here is our page: www.gumbyfest.com (and you can see what I look like!). It involves us renting a venue and setting it up. It DOES take a lot of work, but the way we cover the venue is to charge a small "cover". On top of that, we started having people bring friends, and trust me folks. Once they come and play for a bit, they're hooked. I think having a "convention" would be fantastic. But again, it would involve people who are absolutely serious. My vote is yes. Who knows. If anyone lives in the Colorado/New Mexico area, our next party is coming up soon (cough flippysquirrel cough) :)

I am not against a convention, but if it is in Vegas, I'd be gambling more then gaming. And would probably have more luck if it was more centralized like Texas or something so everyone comes half way across the country vs some all the way.
 
I'm a broke college student. I can't really afford a trip out west.
 
A trip to Las Vegas would cost me... alot!! I dont have enough money:P but an good idea
 
Maybe a few informal "regional" meets around the country. Might be a better idea.
 
Well, Ionno.. I live very far from LV.. Like 4 Hours drive. I'm from Long Beach, California. :D

well, looking at the time zone poll on the right, seems most people live in central and eastern time zones. las vegas would not be a very ideal place to have it because of the gambling and money needed to host that. texas would be a good place because all but 2 of our servers are located there, and its in the middle of the US. it would allow our less than 21 years old players to attend. i would love an EGO convention, but the probability of it happening just doesn't seem too great to me
 
I like the idea and yet to fly to either place would cost me 750 to Vegas and 550-600 to texas(depending on which city.) I'd love to go and yet I'm poor. I mean dirt poor, like college student that makes 20k a year poor lol.

im with anne, im in New Jersey, so getting there will take me a bit haha.
 
like anyone needs an excuse to go to vegas!

maybe there should be three seperate sites - west coast, east coast, and halfway between?

4 hours is nothing. Vegas from Saskatchewan, Canada is like a 18 hour drive.
 
As it looks the idea of an event seems to be well accepted, but distance/cost is what might prevent people to show up. Obviously this is not something what is going to happen next month either (I personally would plan for something next year (hopefully economy is better too, and this would allow people to save for this as well). The idea of Vegas was because eGo seems to be present in Vegas, but any other please will do just fine. If people would like to opt for Texas or a multi city event (not necessarily same date) could be arranged as well.

As SixxGunn indicated this can be pulled off quiet successfully, it just needs some dedication from some people who are organizing this. By the way SixxGunn if you have something going soon, then I keep myself available (provided I am invited of course) I even could help since I live in ABQ (thanks for mentioning this).

We also could organize something first on a smaller scale to see how things will work out, but generally LAN parties are a blast. We organize them locally here quiet a few times (besides the gig SixxGunn is talking about).

I’d be more then happy to volunteer to organize this (however I can't do this alone either). Input so far has been great, and I am sure we all can come up with something and make this a great event for most of us, and affordable too.
