I guess you can look at these as perks of being part of the tech team - Mapper.

I mean anyone who knows how to map can edit maps but I’d hope that the tech team has standards set for version control, optimization and performance, naming schemes, and ensuring edits are done after attempting to contact the author of the map and being granted approval to modify it.

Tbh creating maps is a pain in the ass from what I have heard. You can make a map from tutorials but what if you get some sort of a bug, how are yah gonna fix that ey.
