awkward fan problem

So it turns out my ocz psu was fine. the +4 was off i think. either way.

started setting some more crap up with my comp. Found out the video card was doa (i think.. it has onboard video though.) eitherway, that can be fixed one way or another.

my real problem came around when i tried to connect the fans to the motherboard. after connecting one cable to the sys_fan2 pin set (4 pin) the computer won't start at all. after i unplug it the CPU lights up just fine. Keep in mind i don't even have a real video card in. what may be causing this???

for reference i'm using
Antec 900 for the case (hence the need for case fans.)
Gigabyte mobo
and OCZ for the psu
 
You might not be able to use 4 pin fans on you system. Check you manual for you MoBo (what model is that anyway? (Gigabyte makes tons of different models)) Some moBo's only handle 3 pin fans.
 
the motherboard i have is the GA-EP35-DS3L. it does support a 4 pin fan connector as stated on the motherboard itself and in the manual as "sys_fan2." I found the pins through the manual oddly enough. the pin set lists 1-4 top to bottom with

1 - GND
2 - Speed Control
3 - Sense
4 - +5v

this is from the manual itself.

the OCZ power supply cable that fits it runs red - black - black - yellow for the 4 wires.
 
I sent you a pm suggesting you get a molex adaptor, you can live without one fan for now imo
 
forget i said anything about this.... i was wrong in thinking the case fans needed to be connected to the mobo at all (through the psu.) i was wrong.. heh. now i just have to wait for a new vid card, yay.
 
Before you RMA the video card, are you sure there wasn't some user error involved there, too?
 
yeah.. i pretty much fail at new computers.. never had prior experience with PCI-e slots so i didn't know it required a separate connection to the psu :-/
either way.. i'm up and running
