messed up virus =/ idk how to get rid of it please help

ok so just today i was browsing the web and all of a suden this thing pops up saying ur computer is infected. so it keeps changing my backround to blue with install an antivirus program to get rid of this or somthing writen in it. and it changes my screensaver to bugs or something. i dont know what to do here i ran avg and got no threats and ran registry mechanic and fixed the errors with that and nothing happened its still there anyone know how i can get rid of this besides rebooting my computer?
 
bleepingcomputer.com is my recommendation for all things virus related. Make sure AVG is up to date and try running it in safe mode with out networking. Also, check bleepingcomputer for the hijackthis threads, it may be worth your while to post a hijackthis log up there and let the pros there help you (it's free). You just have to download hijackthis (the program) and don't do ANYTHING with it that the people at bleepingcomputer don't tell you to do. It is very easy to delete whole registry files with it.
Also, you may try some other anti-virus programs, just for a second opinion. AVG works well, but both bitdefender and kaparsky have free online scan tools. They take a while to run, but maybe they will find something that AVG won't.

Go to http://www.free-av.de/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html, download the free version of this excellent antivirus software (make sure you uninstall the AV you have currently on you system first (AV software have been known to interfere with each other), run the update, and then run a full scan. Then go to http://www.spybot.info/en/mirrors/index.html install spybot, during install make sure you run the update, and then run a scan as well. I bet this will do the trick. This combo has worked for my many times I had to remove nasty Trojans (seems what you have), viruses and other malware from computers. For spybot I typically do not install the tea-timer, the tea-timer watches over you registry, every time some process wants to change the registry, you will have to acknowledge this. THis can be a pain in the neck, but if you don't know what you are doing, it can safeguard you from issues you are seeing now.

boot up in safe mode and try running the virus checks form there. Or better yet go to a friends house and plug in your hard drive into his computer then boot up on his main HDD. Then scan your drive from his computer.

btw, after you get it figured out, get kaspersky, firefox, ad-blocker plus, and a hostess cupcake to make you feel better :)

Firefox 3 is still in release candidate status, and is probably not good for a machine that is already unstable. Furthermore, there's not guarantee that any extensions will work with FF3 (although I'm guessing you've tested it, nossr50.)

If you run MSCONFIG.EXE (built into windows) and disable everything, when you restart you can find out if it's an executable program launching at start, or if it's something like a service or something worse.

Take these things one step at a time, and don't make a move until you've carefully understood the impact of the last thing you did.

If you just can't figure it out, back up your data, reload your computer, and be much more careful in the future.
 
Sounds like Smitfraud, which usually comes along with Virtumonde and Vundo. This is one of the most annoying spyware infections to get rid of, because it's self-replicating and infects all kinds of crap.

You pretty much need to go to bleepingcomputer and post a HijackThis log (or post one here and I'll try to help you). You may have success by downloading Spybot S&D, VundoFix, SmitfraudFix, and ComboFix. Then, update Spybot, restart your computer into safemode (hit F8 every second or so as it boots). Run them all, in that order, and it takes care of most infections, but potentially not all. After doing that, post another HijackThis log.

I must warn you that ComboFix takes a long time to run and can permanently damage your Windows install if you've got a bad enough infection. The creators of the program say it's about a 1/100 chance that this will happen, though. Just make sure your Windows disc is ready, in case.

Also, stop downloading infected torrents, and tell anyone else on your local network to do the same. I can almost guarantee that's where it came from.

Good tips, and yes I have tested it. It's fairly stable with almost no crashes. Most of the addons I use are mainstream and have been updated. But using Firefox 2 is a fine choice, there are a few differences, mainly firefox 3 is a little better here and there, but Firefox 2 still can stop annoying ads and spyware on its own just fine.
 
i had the same virus. download AVG first. then download the comodo firewall, its good to protect yourself from viruses you might not even download.
