First, I say "promotion problem" because there is no problem with promotions/promoting, but rather with would-be promotees.

As I said in another post, I come from playing World of Warcraft. In WoW, clans (or guilds, as they are called in WoW) are by nature much more constricted in nature, or at least those that hope to have a chance at succeeding in the end-game content. In WoW, guild members are much, much, much more dependant on eachother for their own success. I have seen too many instances where people gain and use admin power (or officer power as it's called in WoW) to further their own aims. Those that wish to

In my case, I came from a successful guild, and I was a valued member who contributed much to my guild. I say that because I have actually been yelled at for being too supportive of my guild and guild members.

In my guild, I never became an officer, although I was more than qualified to be in the position. Less senior players became core raiders and officers while I remained a mere member without any privledges. I never complained or really cared that I was in a low position.

Why?

Because it was the best for the guild as a whole. I knew that and embraced that, and all of my actions were done so that I might help my guild.

Now, why on earth would I sacrifice as much as I did for my guild when I could have used my efforts to furthe my own person advancement?

Simple:
Because I believed, and still do, that if the guild or clan prospers, everyone in the guild or clan prospers with it. My efforts were rewaded with my being able to see some of the end game content and, much, much , much, much, much, much, much more importantly, I earned the friendship, respect, and appreciation of my guild members. THEY made playing the game worthwhile, the game alone didn't.

Right now I am at the lowest rank in this clan, and that is how it should be, and I don't care one bit if it always remains that way. I am more than content in being in this great clan with great people. I am thoroughly enjoying my time playing with all of you, my clan mates, regardless of the fact that I am an =(e)=.

In fact, I am proud I am an =(e)= and not a member of some other clan.

Promotions are given out based on what is best for the clan, not on what is best for the individual. If being promoted is what is best for the clan, then one should, and will, be promoted. That's fantastic. If remaining an =(e)= is what's best for the clan, then one should, and won't be promoted. That is equally fantastic. That's what makes this clan great and I am glad for it.

It is WRONG to EXPECT that one DESERVES a promotion. No one DESERVES a darn thing from the clan. The CLAN, however, deserves understanding and dedicated members. Anyone who feels different shouldn't be in a clan, in my frank and honest opinion.

Thank you for listening to my rant.

You'll also come to realize that, regardless of your rank, you are still respected equally (although you are already probably picking up on this notion.) I've been an e for two months and I have friends in ALL of the sections of eGO!

I know that. No matter the rank, we are all still people playing a game. Everyone is equal and rank really doesn't count
for much

its finally nice to see someone step up to those "beggers" who always ask for a promotion when they certantly arnt qualified to get one. I agree w/ you 100% phr33ky clans should promote by whats best for the guild not the indivisual. so good thread.

Finally a good post i believe about promos. Seen one two comments i deserve a promo give me a promo. Good post PhR33kY, see you in game.

Well after reading all the nonsense about the "beggers" as you call them, I felt compelled to voice my thoughts. Good to see that I'm not alone in my sentiments.

nicely put - and truthfully who really cares about promotions? and if you do please tell me so I can laugh at you.

Thank you. Its nice to see support from you guys about the promotions.

Although I hope to be an admin at some point in the future... I really don't care about that right now. I am pretty proud to be playing on the eGO servers with the tag because I belong and these servers are my "home".... and I treat them like that... :D now... I have to go try the new map...

just dont think about it...if you do then you will basically screw yourself over. someone can be like an e for months, and one can be promoted faster. it says in the main post on promotions to not care if someone gets promoted before you.

if you want to be high in the ranks so to speak, make your own clan and be the best there. the reason why people join this is to ahve friends so the game wont get boring. there are tons of eG, and eGO's here to start with, and it doesnt matter if you arent with them.

and to PhR33kY, i hate WoW...

Fortunatly that doesn't detract from my point.

Good post. I don't care if I stay e forerver. I am proud to even be a part of this clan:)

EXACTLY my feelings.

Good call!

Although I was kinda happy to be pointed as an eG (more so because it was nice that I was taken note of), I really had to problem of being an =e=. I still got to play the same game, with the same guys/gals, from the same clan. What more am I to expect?

You guys sound like you are trying to earn brownie points. :)

Sadly with a clan this size, some deserving people get overlooked. Best bet is try to stand out. I was lucky enough to join back when there was only 2 servers end of beta/early release. Was able to fit the whole TF2 eGO clan on my friends list. If I had to go through it now with this size, I might try to send a tell to admins asking if they need any help. Even with simple things like asking people to please watch the language when needed. Something to make me stand out in a positive light. But thats just me thinking outloud.

I smell a communist :)

But then again, we all know who said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but for what you can do for your country."

Of course, nobody is 100 per cent altruistic. Everybody entered this clan with the hopes to get something good out of it for themselves. And thankfully, getting something good out of the clan can be correlated with being altruistic.

By helping the clan, you are enhancing your own game experience. Promotions give you a chance to help out more. Promotions also make people happy that they are being recognized; a good thing about promotions is that they bring the clan closer together.

Anyways, I'm happy to be in eGO

My exact thought....
but w/e let them get them

My opinion it is fine as it is, to be promoted you need to be active ingame and on forums for about 1-3 months and follow great points in the sticky at the top (PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE dont post how you joined 23231 years ago and still and e)

In my opinion, the amount of active admins is still pretty low, I run many times where there is no admin on servers - but again admins=people they have their personal life as well. Like I had finals for couple of days so was unable to play.

Just a thought

Awsome man, you made an important point and i hope others see it so they can see rank isnt important but the people in the clan is what matters. Great job :D
